The first thing I heard this morning was
"Mommy, are we going to kindergarten today?"
Just that voice spilling out from a little body that hasn't fully woken up yet
can sometimes set the temperature for the whole day.

Voices are mysterious things.
Even if you can't see the person, they bring the person themselves to you.
Whether over the phone, on an X Space, or
from a place far away,
with just one word, you know, "Oh, it's them."
A voice is like a light that brings the outline of the feeling of wanting to see someone into sharp focus.

When you become an adult,
you sometimes find yourself lowering your voice,
"Is it okay to say something like this?"
"Should I just read the room?"
Whether at work or within your family,
you swallow the words you really wanted to say,
and whisper them only where no one can hear.

It doesn't have to be a loud voice.
A whisper-like voice is fine.
That small word might just warm someone's winter a little bit.

The voice inside you is still right here.
It's just become harder to hear.
Please, today, let yourself, the one closest to that voice, listen carefully.
