How to install Kylin desktop on Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver Linux

Objective

The objective is to install Kylin desktop as an alternative desktop environment. Kylin is a customized Ubuntu desktop version for Chinese users.

Requirements

Administrative root/sudo permissions.

Conventions

• # – requires given linux commands to be executed with root privileges either directly as a root user or by use of sudo command
• $ – requires given linux commands to be executed as a regular non-privileged user

Instructions

Install KDE plasma Desktop

Execute the following linux command to begin installation of the Kylin desktop:

$ sudo apt install ubuntukylin-desktop

We are about to install additional display manager. Read the text provided for more information.

Select lightdm display manager.

Once the Kylin desktop installation is complete log out or reboot your system

Before you login, confirm that Ubuntu Kylin desktop is set as default.

Select your username and use your password to login to Ubuntu Kylin 18.04 Desktop.
