When I read my own translated note, my younger brother had become a foreigner
Yesterday, when I opened my note, I found that an English version had been created.
My silly little stories had been turned into English.
Come to think of it, I did read an announcement about multilingual support.
Was it from today?
Out of 51 articles, 10 had been translated into English.
What's more, all six articles in the younger brother series were included.
I tried reading the English text out loud.
Suddenly, images like those from a foreign TV drama started playing in my brain.
The characters became foreigners, stood up, moved around, and started speaking in English.
My younger brother, who should be Japanese, had become a foreign college student, speaking to me in fast-paced, youthful English.
He was even saying things like 'soy sauce'.
Who is this foreigner?
I became absorbed and read my articles one after another in English.
Then, my usual little stories started to look like completely different works.
Just by changing the language, the characters, the visuals, the background music, and the sound effects all emerged with a completely different atmosphere.
The sound effect I wrote as 'Babaan!' had become 'Boom!'
The images, complete with speech bubbles, were coming at me right before my eyes.
It's an American comic.
This is fun.
In my work, I sometimes do translation and interpretation.
Because of that, I am relatively conscious of writing the text for my notes in a short and easy-to-understand way so that it is easy to translate.
However, there was one sentence I published while thinking that it might be mistranslated.
It was a scene where I fought with my younger brother and "the air became bad."
This might be translated as air pollution.
However, the AI translated it as,
“The atmosphere gradually turned sour.”
It correctly translated it as the atmosphere of a human relationship.
AI translation is quite smart.
Moreover, subjects that are ambiguous in Japanese were naturally organized.
Where the gender is unknown, it has mostly become "they."
It's smart.
I will do that from now on too.
It will require less confirmation from the author.
It was so much fun to read that I thought I would like my Japanese friends who like English and my friends who only speak English to read it too.
Would that person laugh here?
I find myself imagining such things.
It felt as if I had become an author who had published a translated book.
In my delusions, I stroked the cover of a foreign book.
But in reality, I have a mountain of serious manuscripts waiting for deadlines.
Right now, it is a very important time for my work as well.
If my staff found out that I was updating such carefree little stories every day in the midst of all this, they would be angry.
I want many people to read them.
But it would be a problem if someone who knows my real name found them.
So for now, I will write freely and enjoy both the Japanese and English versions quietly by myself.
