Father's Day Lunch! The story of how mussels look like cockroaches.
June 21st is Father's Day. For some reason, in our house, when Father's Day comes around, I am the one who grills the meat.
Not for the father, but by me. When I think about it, it's a strange story, but since I've been doing it for years, no one questions it anymore.
In the refrigerator, a piece of special wagyu steak meat with a half-price sticker was sitting there.

The fact that it was half price feels somewhat like Father's Day, and I actually quite like that.

I grill it slowly in a frying pan, brown the garlic, and drizzle a soy sauce-based glaze over it.

With plenty of bean sprouts on the side, it became a dish that looked impressive, at least. My husband is weak for this kind of meat. That has been clear for twenty years now.
And one more dish, pasta. My husband loves pasta, but this time he insisted, "I want to add mussels", and he happily bought the mussels at the supermarket.

I can still remember the look on his face during that shopping trip. He was truly satisfied.
So, we ended up making seafood tomato pasta.
Shrimp, squid, and mussels. I simmer the tomato sauce, and I quietly enjoy watching the moment the shells pop open.

I plated it and thought to myself that it turned out quite well.
However.
The moment I served the finished pasta to my husband, he said this:
"These mussels look like cockroaches, somehow."
Huh? I thought. You were the one who happily bought them yourself, right?
Cockroaches?
"They do look like them..."
my husband added. I said nothing. I didn't say anything, but honestly, I had to admit that they did look a bit like that.
Black, shiny, and the tips of the shells are a bit pointed. Now that he mentioned it, it really did have that vibe.
Even while saying that, my husband took the meat out of the shells one by one and ate the mussels with a rather serious look on his face.
He ate them diligently with the same mouth that said they looked like cockroaches. That gap was somehow funny.
For dessert, I tried baking a banana cake. I was worried it might fall apart when taking it out of the mold, but the cross-section was moist, and it turned out reasonably well.

Father's Day menu, I think it turned out to be quite a luxurious day.
My husband finished everything again today. His impression was that they were cockroaches.
Thank you for reading until the end 😊
