A Short Break: My Sister Who Became a "Left-Handed Character" and "Bloody Beef" - Reviews ①: An Old Lady's Monologue ⑥
[Reviews]
My sister has only visited the nursing home where our mother has been for 13 years twice.
Well, she lives in a country quite far away.
That can't be helped.
For me, it's actually convenient in a way
since I don't have to see her often.
Up until now, she has never helped with arranging the nursing home, handling mother's various paperwork,
shopping, or payments.
She has perfectly maintained a
"hands-off"approach without ever paying a cent. However, despite that, she interferes with this and that,
and complains.
Even now, she only wants to hold the "control rights."
Yes, she is similar to someone...
⸻⸻⸻
My sister appears in Japan once every few years.
I got a LINE message from her.
"I'm going to Japan from the 1st to the 6th.It's a whirlwind trip so I don't have time. I'm meeting friends on the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th,
so I'm only free on the 3rd. Are you free?"
⸻I see. So I'm a system that gets inserted into"the gaps in your schedule."
⸻Yes, yes, I'll clear my schedule.
More importantly, did you even have that many friends?
(I feel like the status of living abroad makes her sense of "being special" even stronger.)
"Also, I found a 'good restaurant' near your house, so let's go there."
⸻No, everything is already decided...It's like this every time.
⸻⸻⸻
What my sister calls
"a good restaurant"
means"a restaurant with high review ratings."However, since shelives abroad,
shenaturally has never been there once.I'm not a foodie, and I'm not that knowledgeable about dining out, but
even so, usually,
"Is there a recommended restaurant near you?"
"What do you want to eat?"
isn't asking someone who lives in the neighborhood
"a modest courtesy for a middle-aged woman"?
Well, I have absolutely no intention of telling her that.
Anyway, we headed to the"highly-rated"
fancy creative izakaya she chose.
While almost falling down the steep stairs,we finally arrived. We sat at the long counter. It was nicely lit,and the atmosphere was very
"highly-rated review vibe."
The staff wasn't particularly friendly, but they weren't particularly unpleasant either.
That day, it had been"10 years"since I last met my sister.
⸻⸻⸻
"Long time no see."
"Oh, wait, I'm left-handed, so don't sit on my left side!"
"Our hands will bump into each other and it's hard to eat."
──Huh?
Didn't you used to hold your chopsticks with your right hand normally?
The sister I knew
was definitely right-handed.
Before I knew it, she had evolved into a perfect
"left-handed character."Surely, behind the scenes, there must have been desperate, intense training.
Is it a longing for left-handed foreigners,
or is it a strong obsession with
"me, who is different from Japanese people"...?
Well, whatever⸻On top of that, even though she's originally from Kansai, she speaks in a
cringe-worthy Kanto dialect.
"That's nice, isn't it? I have one too.""Seriously, that's hilarious~"⸻No, who are you?The Kanto "jan" makes me cringe as a Kansai person.Where did you leave your Kansai soul?
However, people sometimes live while acting out
"the person they want to be" rather than "the real self."
The left hand,
the Kanto dialect,
the blonde hair, and even starting to say, "There is definitely white blood flowing in my veins"...
Perhaps it was her own way of
"a life makeover."
Maybe that's what it was.
Who knows...
⸻⸻⸻
"The meat here seems fresh. The reviews also said the meat is recommended."
"It seems they buy the whole cow."
"You absolutely cannot skip the meat!"
⸻Yes, yes. Then I'll order the beef tataki. The meat is fresh, right?
What was brought out was beef tataki with blood oozing out, which it is no exaggeration to call "almost raw."
By the way, I am
"someone who likes their meat well-done."Then my sister said one thing:
"I'm not very hungry today, so
I don't need any meat."
⸻Whaaaat!!!
I have to eat this bloody beef all by myself?
And there's quite a lot of it, isn't there?
Even though you kept saying meat, meat, meat.
I finished it all, washing it down with wine...
The other dishes I ordered weren't
impressively delicious,
but they weren't bad either,
just completely average.
That night...
I was struck by nausea and stomach pain and spent the night
in the bathroom...
The reviews said "the meat is fresh and recommended," didn't they?!
I didn't eat much other than the tataki...
No, wait... maybe this symptom is
because I met my sister for the first time in a while...
