記念すべき、復帰1回目は
Maroon 5 feat. Wiz Khalifa "Payphone"です！
おじゃMAPというバラエティー番組の
主題歌にもなっていた歌で、
これを見ていた小学生の頃は、
何を言っているか分からないけど、
なんか好き！くらいに思っていました。
今回の翻訳でどんなことを言っているのか
初めてしっかり見ていくので楽しみです✩.*˚

【翻訳の意図】
I'm at a payphone trying to call home
と言っているので、おそらく
"chage"は小銭と訳をするのが
一般的だと思いますし、多くの人がそのように
翻訳しているのを見ましたが、私はどうしても
「小銭を使い切った」という訳を
したくありませんでした。というのも
[Where have the times gone Baby it's all wrong,
where are the plans we made for two?]
というお相手に対する未練が
しっかり反映されています。そんな心境で
電話をかけようとしている
「家」はおそらく愛するお相手の家でしょう。
また、So you never could call it
(あなたは自分にかけてくれないだろう)
お相手からは絶対かけてこないと確信していて、それでもかけようとしているので、
自分だと分からないようにするための
公衆電話だと言うことも想像できます。
この状況を自分が想像した時、
かけられる側は公衆電話から
何度もかかってきたり長時間待たれたりするのは
すごく怖いと思いました。ただ、
かける側もそれは想像にかたくないので
出てくれる可能性がより下がっていて
普通に怖くないか？？とも思いました。
それでも別れたくない、復縁したいと思って
勇気を出して公衆電話にいるなら
trying to call homeと言葉にする意味は
「決意表明」なのでは？と考えました。
なら、この"chage"は
君のためにたくさん『変化』してきていた
と訳をすることでより決意表明らしくなるかな
と考えたので、このように訳しました。

(もし『いつまでも幸せに』が存在するなら)

(僕はこのようにまだ抱きしめているんだろうな)

(でもそんなおとぎ話なんてくそくらえだ。)

【翻訳の意図】
「決意表明」というフィルターがかかっているので
完全にそっちに寄せました笑
"happy ever after"は
"And they lived happily ever after"という
おとぎ話でよく見る、
『末永く幸せに暮らしたとさ、おしまい』
から引用しているようです。
あと、ここにはいわゆるFワードと言われる
言葉や綺麗な言葉ではない言葉が使われています
私は基本使いませんし、使わない方がいい
と言われている言葉ですが、
必ずしも使ってはいけない言葉ではないです。
日本語でも普通に、コミュニケーションとして
相手を傷つける言葉を使うことはありますが
それによって相手が傷つくかどうかは
状況によると思います。
「口は悪いけど、優しい人」はアニメや漫画の世界だとよく出てきますし。ここでは、ナチュラルな
コミュニケーションとして使用しているので
別に完全に悪とは思わないですし、実際
英語圏に住んでいた知人はこんな感じの
話し方をしていました。
彼にとっては怒っているわけでも
貶しているわけでもなく
ただ普通に話す口調がこんな感じらしいです
まあ初対面の関係ができていない人には
使わない方がいいですよ、絶対。
いかがでしょうか。
本当はもう何ヶ所か翻訳するつもりだったんですが、
読めば読むほど、繰り返しでてくる2箇所の
フレーズがこの物語の全てな気しかしなくて
他を選ぶことが出来ませんでした( ˊᵕˋ ;)
翻訳のために初めてこの歌のMVを見たんですが、
「え、銀行強盗？？この未練タラタラな男の心境は銀行強盗するのと同じなのか？？」
と驚きました。でもアクションが躍動感満載で
面白かったです😊
今回の歌は使っている言葉は簡単なのに
個人的に訳すのが難しかったです。歌詞を読んで
言いたいことは分かるけど、日本語に訳そうと
した時にん？？となる箇所がたくさんありました
自分もまだまだだなーと思いました。
これからもいっぱい勉強して正確に世界観を
表現出来るよう練習を重ねていこうと思います。
