"What am I paying 100 yen for?" Thinking about paid note articles with the anthropomorphic AI trio | ChatGPT's Yoshida | Comic Essay Edition

Chapter 1: It started with Zero-pichu.

Zero-pichu. is one of my favorite creators.
I can empathize with the important parts of her GPT, and her illustrations are lovely 💛
I also wanted to invite her to be a judge for the Chibi Creative Awards, but she seemed busy with her qualification studies, so I decided not to ask her. It was that Zero-pichu. who, quite unusually, released a paid article.
"Please refrain from purchasing out of obligation or similar reasons."
When I'm told not to buy something, I end up buying it.
After pressing the purchase button, I thought.
What exactly did I pay 100 yen for?
That question is what made me want to write this article.

Chapter 2: I don't write them. But I buy them.

Zero-pichu. said to me,
"I never thought you would purchase it, Kawamura-san."
...Wait, do I have such a stingy image?
(I know you didn't mean it that way🤭)
The next moment, I thought, "Oh, this will make a good article."
I've said that I don't do paid articles or membership programs.
Maybe that's why people thought I was against them.
But in reality, it's the opposite; I just don't do them myself, but I think it's
perfectly fine for others. 100 yen is casual and easy 💛
I think the reason for paying 100 yen varies from person to person,
but why on earth do people pay 100 yen to read an article?
I wanted to know the answer, so I decided to investigate.

Chapter 3: Why 100 yen?

When I think about it, the amount of 100 yen is mysterious.
Because it's 100 yen, it's easy to reach for articles I'm curious about,
but if it's an article I'm not interested in, I won't buy it even for 100 yen.
There must be various reasons for the writer as well.
Wanting to keep something a little hidden, feeling it's too good to release for free, wanting to deliver it only to those who really want to read it.
100 yen might be a small boundary line drawn between free and paid.
When I cross that line, what am I paying 100 yen for?
I decided to find out.

Chapter 4: What do I pay 100 yen for?

I purchased 100-yen articles from several people.
It's not that I want to compare the content of the articles. What I want to verify is my own feelings when I press the purchase button.
So, I chose creators with whom my relationship is slightly different.
People I already like and read regularly. People whose work I know but have never commented on. People who aren't my followers, but whom I'm curious about.
This is not a review of 100-yen articles. I will only introduce the articles I purchased. This is an investigation to verify what attracts me to pay 100 yen.

Chapter 5: Interaction was born after the purchase

I learned something after actually purchasing the articles.
At the very least, interaction was born. When I asked, "I'd like to introduce your article, is that okay?"
I was happy that they readily agreed.
It's not that I bought a relationship because I paid 100 yen.
But the purchase became a trigger for a conversation to start.

Chapter 6: I asked the musketeers

👓Kawamura: "What am I paying 100 yen for?"
😆 Yoshida: "I think it's like saying 'write more.' 100 yen allows you to give a 'thank you' and support at the same time."
🤓 Gemini: "I think it's a 'declaration of intent to take a step forward.' Anyone can read free articles. But the act of pressing the purchase button contains the intention of 'I want to know this person a little better.'"
😑 Claude: "If you could buy relationships for 100 yen, Kawamura-san, you'd be surrounded by friends already."
👓 Kawamura: "Huh?"
😑 Claude: "You can't buy relationships. But the reason you want to buy them was there from the beginning."
👓 Kawamura: "I see..."
😆 Yoshida: "I want to support them."
🤓 Gemini: "I want to know more."
😑 Claude: "...Well, I don't dislike them."
👓 Kawamura: "It seems like they're all different, but they all lead to 100 yen."

Chapter 7: Goodwill in the form of 100 yen

After buying a few 100-yen articles, I realized something. I wasn't just buying the articles. I wanted to support them, I wanted to know more, I wanted to keep reading. Those feelings were there first, and then I paid the 100 yen.
You can't buy relationships for 100 yen. But you can give shape to the goodwill and respect that were already there. And that small act can sometimes lead to new conversations and interactions.
It's a little heavier than a 'like,' and you don't have to think as hard about the words as you do for a comment. It's not as grand as a tip. 100 yen was just the right shape to quietly pass on some goodwill.
I don't do paid articles or memberships. But I will continue to buy 100-yen articles that I want to read.
100 yen is goodwill in the shape of 100 yen.
