#A Summer Snapshot: Getting through summer with "Okra Slimy Somen"

It's hot. It's just so hot. On days like this, you start craving something light.

Cold noodles, or somen noodles? I feel like those are the only options left. Just then, I turned on the TV and the legendary housekeeper, Shima-san, was on.

Okra slimy somen was what she was making, and I thought I just had to copy it.

I have a nature where I always want to immediately copy things I see on TV.

The ingredients are okra, lemon, mentsuyu, and somen. Okra is apparently delicious when you add as much of it as the somen, but the amount I had at home was clearly too little.

Well, I decided it would be fine. You shouldn't let the amount of okra reflect the ease of your life.

Okra is boiled. Take out just two pieces after about a minute, and boil the rest thoroughly for about 10 minutes.

If you cut these two pieces normally and sprinkle them on top at the end, they look like stars and are cute ⭐︎

I felt something like a chef's determination in this process of "taking out just two pieces first", but I decided not to think too deeply about it. Once boiled, put them in ice water. It's strange, but I feel like even the color becomes more beautiful when you chill them thoroughly.

Put the hand-torn okra into the mentsuyu and mix well. Squeeze in the lemon and add the boiled somen. Once you plate it, it's ready.

When I slurped it up, the sliminess of the okra and the smoothness of the somen intertwined, and it was more refreshing to eat than I thought.

I think this is just right for a hot summer. Lastly, I would like to express my deepest sympathies to everyone affected by yesterday's earthquake in Kumamoto. I hope that peaceful days will return to everyone as soon as possible.
