[note Strategy] 5,000 followers in 126 days. The story of building a "one-person editorial department" with AI | Column | Gratitude

――Editors, illustrators, marketers, sales. An era where individual creators can have a team

It's been 126 days since I started note.

Thankfully, I have surpassed 5,000 followers.

To everyone who reads my work, thank you so much.

Over these 126 days, while continuing to post every day, there is something I have felt strongly.

What is needed to grow on note is not just writing ability.

Presentation, flow, visuals, structure. As I refined all of these, the presence of AI became increasingly significant to me.

This time, I will write about that.

Have you ever thought about how commercial works are created?

Popular manga have not just the author, but assistants.
There are editors.
There are designers.
There are people who think about marketing.
There are sales staff to get the books to bookstores.

Novels are the same. Behind the author, there is an editor who thought about the structure together, a designer who created the cover, and someone who thought of the copy for the obi.

Commercial works are created by a team from the start.

On the other hand, when an individual continues to create on note, they have to shoulder all of that themselves.

Thinking of the original idea.
Refining the structure.
Writing the text.
Thinking of the title.
Creating the thumbnail.
Preparing illustrations.
Thinking about the flow for readers.
Replying to comments.

Besides writing, all of this becomes necessary.

Honestly, continuing this alone every day is quite exhausting.

But since I started using AI as a "one-person editorial department," things have changed little by little.

There is one thing I am most conscious of when using AI.

That is not to use AI as a "ghostwriter."

Instead of having AI write, I use AI as each member of the editorial department.

Specifically, it means this.

① AI as Editor-in-Chief

I have it think about the structure of the story with me.

"What is the core of this story?" "Where will readers want to read the continuation?" "What emotions should be brought out in this episode?"

When continuing a series, I sometimes get lost around the third episode, wondering, "Where is this story heading?" By deciding the ending of each episode with AI in advance, that has decreased. When thinking alone, it's hard to notice my own biases, but when I throw it to AI and see what comes back, I can sometimes realize, "Oh, this part was off."

② AI as Assistant

In works with a lot of settings, organizing information is difficult. Character relationships, world-building rules, foreshadowing for each episode. By managing this with AI, the series is less likely to get lost.

The longer the series, the more confirmation work there is, like "Where did I mention that setting?" If I can leave that to AI, I can concentrate on writing.

③ AI as Illustrator

When thinking about the direction of thumbnails and illustrations, I verbalize the image together with AI.

If I organize "What emotion do I want to convey in this scene?" and "What color tone fits?" before creating it, the precision of the visuals improves. For the first episode of the series, by verbalizing elements like "late night," "loneliness," and "but there is a little light" with AI before creating it, it became an entrance that conveyed the atmosphere before reading the main text.

④ AI as Marketer

I think about the title, subtitle, and flow design together. By organizing "Who do I want to deliver this article to?" and "Where will readers come in from?" what I write is less likely to be buried.

Actually, by creating this "one-person editorial department" form, the burden of daily posting has decreased, and the way I present the series and create entrances has become stable. I think the fact that this system has been established, not just the number of articles, is a big reason why my followers have grown.

⑤ AI as Sales

I polish the words readers see first, such as the article introduction and magazine description, together. No matter how good the main text is, if the entrance words are weak, people won't pick it up. The work of organizing "What is this article in one word?" with AI is also practice for looking at my own articles objectively.

However, there is one thing I must not forget.

AI gives me many ideas. But that doesn't mean I should use them as they are.

Are these my own words?
Does this temperature suit me?
Is this really what I want to write?

AI's writing can be too polished. It can be too correct.

But what a story needs is not just correctness.

Words that only that person can write, even if a little clumsy.
A margin that remains in the heart, even if it can't be fully explained.

I believe that is what reaches the reader's heart.

After facing AI,what I still couldn't discard becomes words.

Perhaps this is the most important thing.

Previously, there was an insurmountable difference between commercial works and individual creation: the depth of the team.

Of course, I can't do exactly the same thing as a commercial team.

Even so, I have become able to share the work that an individual was carrying alone little by little.

Editor-in-chief, assistant, illustrator, marketer, sales.

I think we are in an era where one can create such a system alone.

5,000 followers in 126 days.

It seems like I'm writing alone, but I'm no longer completely alone.

But in the end, the one who chooses the words is still me.

While being supported by an editorial department called AI,I want to continue delivering words chosen with my own body temperature.

Thank you so much for always reading.
