Delicious-looking paintings are here too (Pierre Bonnard) - A follow-up story to the 'Sunflowers' incident -

Since I've been writing about some heavy topics lately,
this time I'll share a lighter episode.

That said,
it is still a story about a painting that caused an 'incident'.

I wrote 'delicious-looking' in the title,
but this is not an introduction to paintings of delicious food
like Cézanne's apples
or Manet's asparagus,
so if you were looking for that, I apologize.

This is a follow-up story about me wanting to eat Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers' (!?).

The story of how Van Gogh's Sunflowers are delicious

As a prequel to this article,
the National Gallery, London's
Van Gogh'sSunflowers
episode exists.

It's a rather long note article, but
in short,
'Van Gogh's Sunflowers look so delicious, I can't stop drooling'
is what it boils down to.
(I write about only that at length, haha
please read it if you'd like)

At the end of that article,
I wrote about the trouble of
'delicious-looking' becoming a habit,and now I'm drooling over other paintings too (boohoo).

I wrote about that struggle,
and this time, it's the episode about that painting.

Pierre Bonnard

That painting is this one.

Located in Takeshiba, Tokyo,The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. They acquired a new painting in 2022,
and they were kind enough to put it on special display.

In 2018, at theNational Art Centerin Roppongi,
the Pierre Bonnard Exhibition

I fell in love with Bonnard after seeing that.
I went to the special exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art with great joy.

The most delicious-looking painting in the world: 'Landscape of Provence'

This painting looks incredibly delicious.

Even looking at it on the web now, it makes me go 'gulp'.
In terms of looking delicious, it looks even more delicious than the sunflowers.

It's not the yellow like in the sunflowers,
but in this painting, it's the green areas, the blue areas, and so on.
(Is it a sense of 'sizzle', I wonder...?)

And now that I'm reading the web again,
a new discovery!

My beloved Matisse-sensei highly praises Bonnard.
Someone I like is praising someone I like. I'm grateful.
I could eat three bowls of rice with this.

And another discovery!

An adventure of the optic nerve...!!!

That adventure,
it's causing a malfunction of 'looks delicious' in me!

I've learned that a genius's adventure causes anomalies in the viewer.
That's one discovery.
What a grateful adventure it is.

It resonates deep within my body.

When I think,
'It looks delicious, gulp,' regarding a painting,
the depths of my internal organs feel a 'warmth'.

Is it a switch for appetite?
(The pancreas?)

Perhaps this isn't 'appetite',
but 'greed'?

It feels like the switch for greed
is deep inside my internal organs...
(Does such a thing exist??)

The 'warmth' (emotion) I feel when I think 'what a good painting' is
a warmth just below my heart.

As for what a delicious-looking painting is,
it's a slightly different part of the brain.

It's a rather interesting discovery.

Where do people actually feel paintings?
(In reality, which part of the brain is at work?)

For those reading this article,
when you feel, 'What a wonderful painting, I'm moved,'
where exactly do you feel that warmth?

The way people feel, and the parts they feel it in,
might be different.
