I drew Spider-Man for work | Why what you love leads to work

This is a story about how I finally got to draw a movie character I loved drawing for work. I drew Spider-Man for the IMAX theatrical release promotion of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day".

The title of the new film is
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day"
(Original title: Spider-Man: Brand New Day)

"Brand New Day" carries the meaning of "a new day" or "the beginning of a new life." It is the perfect title for this film, where Peter Parker, having lost everything in the previous installment, takes a new step forward.

Since this illustration was for IMAX, I incorporated the appeal of IMAX into it as well. While I believe the greatest appeal of IMAX is the "sound," this time, to convey the impact of the large screen, I drew Spider-Man swinging out of the frame and the Hulk breaking the frame itself.

It opens today, Friday, July 31st.

I am a movie lover, and I have been diligently working to spread the word about American comic book hero movies, especially the MCU, by drawing fan art and diagrams. I have compiled some of them here↓.

I have also written about the appeal of IMAX on note.

Therefore, it is deeply moving for me to have been able to draw Spider-Man for an IMAX project.

This was created as fan art, not as a job. I drew it hoping that the dawn of Peter's new days would be the opening of a wonderful future.

Why what you love leads to work

In the words of the late illustrator Hiroyuki Yamada, who passed away recently,

He repeated these words many times.

This job can be said to be the embodiment of Mr. Yamada's words. In fact, an illustrator friend of mine who loves mountain climbing and drinking alcohol has had jobs drawing illustrations for mountaineering magazines and alcohol brands.

(*Of course, it's not so easy that just "loving" something makes it a job. Honing your skills, meeting deadlines, and building trust are the absolute prerequisites.)

Thinking about it now, I believe that the fact that I have been drawing movie fan art and diagrams, and writing about the appeal of IMAX on note, was one of the factors that led to this job.

Come to think of it, I have recently come to feel that I love drawing "peace," "learning," and children more than ever before.

"What you love" doesn't immediately become a job. However, because you love it, you can continue, and because you continued, it caught someone's eye. With this job, I realized that once again.

The path to becoming an illustrator might start with finding what you truly love. As for how to find that "love," I would like to write about that on another occasion.
