I went to buy a watermelon and brought back a sunflower too
The carnations I received for Mother's Day have withered.
I realized after receiving them that they were such lovely flowers.
While lingering on that thought,
I washed the vase and put it away.
It was just that, but for some reason, the room felt a little quieter.
I've had opportunities to decorate with flowers before, though not frequently.
A wedding bouquet.
A bouquet for retirement.
A bouquet for the birth of a child.
I was happy every time I received flowers,
and I loved the time spent displaying them.
But once they withered, that was it.
I never bought more myself.
But recently, I realized it after the flowers were gone.
What I felt lonely about wasn't just that
the washbasin had become bleak.
While busy with housework and childcare, the moments when I would wash my hands,
see the beautiful flowers, and feel my mood lighten just a little.
The times when my child was fussy and would calm down
when I talked to them, saying,
"The flowers are pretty, aren't they?"
"That's a leaf."
I realized that it was a 'space to calm the heart' for the whole family.
I had vaguely kept in the back of my mind the conversation I had with my husband about
"wanting to decorate with flowers again."
But we never went out of our way to go to a flower shop,
and the days just went by.
Then, on one of those days off.
My husband suddenly said,
"I'm in the mood for some watermelon."
It was so sudden that I laughed a little, but
I found myself wanting some too.
Alright, I guess we have to go buy some. And I got ready right away.
I thought we were going to buy it at the supermarket, but
my husband had already found a well-regarded farm stand,
and we decided to head there.
Just as we were satisfied with the watermelon we were looking for,
we happened to findcut flowers near the register.
"Oh, these flowers are cute."
My husband and I immediately agreed.
And so,
what came home with us was a mini sunflower🌻
Just having flowers doesn't change life itself from the usual.
Even so,every time I see them, my mood brightens a little.
I can feel the seasons,
and somehow, I feel like I'm living a little more carefully.
And one more thing.
When you go to places you don't usually go,
you have unexpected encounters.
Today, I only went to buy watermelon, but
I even brought back a sunflower🌻
I think I'll go there again sometime.
I wonder what I'll bring back next time.
I hope I can talk about it again then🌱
