🌈 For Your Health

Hello everyone!

This time, I used seasonal spring bamboo shoots to make:

🌸 Flower-Shaped Pan-Fried Gyoza

🥟 "Unwrapped" Soup Dumplings (Xiaolongbao)

I'll also be sharing the key differences
between gyoza and xiaolongbao‼️

⚜️🔱⚜️🔱⚜️🔱⚜️🔱⚜️🔱⚜️🔱

With this recipe, I finally used up all of the bamboo shoots I had prepared using my life-hack techniques 😄

🥟 What's the Difference Between Gyoza and Xiaolongbao?

The biggest differences are the presence of soup and the role of the wrapper.

Gyoza is enjoyed for the texture of the wrapper and the savory filling.
Xiaolongbao, on the other hand, is designed to deliver a burst of flavorful soup and juices with every bite.

Ingredients (For Both Recipes)

Gyoza wrappers
Ground pork
Finely chopped bamboo shoots

Seasonings for the Filling
Mentsuyu (Japanese noodle soup base)

Garlic
Ginger
Sesame oil

Chicken Broth
(Added Later for the Xiaolongbao)

Chicken stock powder
Water

Instructions

① Prepare the Filling in a Frying Pan

(Ground pork, Bamboo shoots, and seasonings)

② I originally planned to place the gyoza wrappers on top, add the chicken broth, and make a one-pan version of "unwrapped" xiaolongbao, but...……

⚠️ Last-Minute Change of Plans! ⚠️

Experimenting with different wrapping methods
(The failed wrappers were chopped up and mixed back into the filling.)

I had so much fun making the flower-shaped gyoza that I ended up using more of the filling than expected!
⬇️
So, I decided to make the "unwrapped" xiaolongbao in a glass instead of in the frying pan.

② Prepare the Flower-Shaped Gyoza

Arrange 3 gyoza wrappers side by side, sealing the overlapping edges with a little water.

Place the filling on top.

Fold in half and seal the edges with water.

Starting from one end, gently roll it up into a spiral.
(It doesn't have to be perfect. 🙆)

🌸 Your flower-shaped gyoza is ready!

③ Prepare the "Unwrapped" Xiaolongbao

Spread a layer of filling in a glass, then add a layer of gyoza wrappers.
Repeat the layers 2–3 times.

Finish with a layer of gyoza wrapper on top.

Both are ready to go! 🙆

④Pan-fry flower-shaped dumplings.

🎊 Add the toppings and serve! 🎉

Toppings
Ponzu sauce, Sesame seeds, Sesame oil, Plenty of chopped green onions, and Goji berries

⑤ Add the Chicken Broth to the Glass for the "Unwrapped" Xiaolongbao

(Poke a hole down the center with chopsticks
so the broth can reach all the way to the bottom.)

⑥Cover with microwave-safe plastic wrap and microwave until heated through.

To prepare for possible overflow, place the glass on a plate lined with a paper towel.

After Microwaving
(No overflow this time! 😄)

🎊 Add the toppings and serve! 🎉

Toppings
Sesame seeds, Chili pepper, Green onions, Ponzu sauce, and Chili oil
