[Something That Has Recently Changed My Perspective] The process of losing weight was a time for refining my mind
This time, I am participating in the collaborative magazine project "Something That Has Recently Changed My Perspective" by Note Revenue Lab.
Recently, I had an experience where I realized that my way of thinking had changed a little. It is that the way I see the scenery I used to look at as a matter of course in my daily life has changed completely over the past few weeks.
The trigger was the "weight loss (diet)" I started about 50 days ago.
The "-5kg" barrier that a married couple takes on
The beginning of it all was when my wife and I decided, "Let's both aim for a weight loss of -5kg."
Things that are hard to continue alone can be maintained in terms of motivation by having a partner with the same goal. Now that about 50 days have passed, we have both succeeded in losing about 4kg, and we have reached a point where we are just a little bit away from achieving our goal.
However, the biggest harvest I gained in these 50 days was not the fact that I lost weight itself.
The absolute law of intake - consumption = weight loss
The basics of dieting are very simple. "Consume more calories than you take in." That is all there is to it.
As a physical mechanism, it is completely based on this formula, but when you actually try to put it into practice, you realize that it is nothing but a "battle with yourself."
Even if you understand it in your head, your appetite in front of you and the indulgence of "it's okay for today" show their faces. In order to continue executing this simple formula calmly every day, in the end, you have no choice but to control your own mind.
It was not the world that changed, but my "perspective"
While continuing this life, one day I suddenly realized something.
Myself, who unconsciously looks at the back of products to check the "calorie count" when entering a convenience store. The existence of people who are active with a refreshing face as a "morning activity" when going out early in the morning. And the figures of "runners" running dashingly through the city.
Things and people that I had never paid any attention to until now suddenly started jumping into my eyes.
Of course, the world did not change suddenly. Calorie counts have been there for a long time, and runners must have been running every morning. It was not the world that changed, but my "perspective."
As soon as I set up an antenna, the resolution increased and the world I saw became new. This was a very interesting experience.
A new encounter called running
And the encounter with "running," which I started as a means to increase calorie consumption, also blew a new wind into me.
Running, which was just "exercise" at first, changed into an important time for me to face myself and organize my thoughts while running. The feeling of moving forward step by step in the pain of being out of breath is also like a microcosm of daily self-management.

Dieting is an act of refining the heart
I am almost at my goal, but looking back on these past 50 days, I have reached a conclusion.
That is, "dieting (weight loss) is an act of refining the heart in the process of losing weight."
Managing meals, continuing to exercise, and facing my own weaknesses while making small choices one after another. I believe that this process itself has sharpened my mind and created a lens through which to see the world from a new perspective.
More than the change in the number on the scale, this "change in perspective" and "refined heart" are the greatest assets I have gained from this challenge.
Even after I reach my goal of losing 5kg, I want to continue enjoying my daily life while cherishing this newly acquired perspective.
