“Pension + 50,000 yen a month” supports life—what I truly felt during my caregiving life
I am Kumataro Yokoyama, a training instructor and sign language interpreter.
While utilizing AI, I provide information for seniors and introduce books and gadgets.
“I’m worried about relying only on my pension.”
I hear that phrase more and more often.
In reality, prices continue to rise.
Electricity bills.
Food costs.
Medical expenses.
Communication costs.
Expenses that were not a problem before are now slowly putting pressure on our daily lives.
However, I have been thinking strongly about this recently.
It might not be “500,000 yen a month” that changes your life significantly, but rather “50,000 yen” or “100,000 yen a month.”
This is because I actually had a time when I had to seriously think about,
“How to generate income while providing care.”
I had no choice but to think about it.
I took half a year off work to care for my mother
I spent about half a year living a life of caring for my mother.
Naturally, caregiving does not go according to plan.
Sudden changes.
Hospital visits.
Communication with facilities.
Dealing with things in the middle of the night.
Both mind and body become exhausted.
And realistically, there is also the issue of “income.”
If you take time off work, your income will naturally decrease.
However, caregiving will not wait for you.
At that moment, I made up my mind.
“I will first make 100,000 yen a month using a method that allows me to earn while caregiving.”
That is what I decided.
I focused on “what I can do now”
Of course, it was not easy.
Time is limited.
My energy is drained.
There is also the anxiety of not knowing what lies ahead.
However, that is precisely why,
“what I can do as I am now”
is what I focused on.
Note.
Kindle publishing.
Online activities.
Sharing the experience I have built up until now.
These are not flashy things.
But, using “what I have now,” I built things up little by little.
Before I knew it, I had reached a “state close to my goal”
And as a result,
“a state where I can generate income even while caregiving”
I was able to give it quite a concrete shape.
Of course, it was not smooth sailing from the beginning.
There was trial and error as well.
However, as I continued,
“the feeling of building up little by little”
was born.
Before I knew it, I had managed to build it up to a state very close to my initial goal of 100,000 yen per month.
It wasn't just about financial security
What I felt strongly here was that
“Income = money”
is not all there is to it.
Of course, financial security is significant.
But what was even greater than that was
“emotional support”
it was.
When you are providing care, it is easy to become lonely.
You can't see the future.
You feel like your own life has come to a standstill.
You get the feeling of being cut off from society.
At times like that,
“I still have things I can do”
being able to think that was truly significant.
This might be a feeling that only those who have actually experienced it can understand.
50,000 yen or 100,000 yen a month is an “amount that changes your life”
When they are in their working years, some people might feel that 50,000 or 100,000 yen a month is “small.”
However, in phases where your life changes significantly, this amount becomes a surprisingly great support.
For example,
・Reduces deficits
・Reduces anxiety
・Creates peace of mind
・Allows you to think about the future
When people spend every day filled only with anxiety, their hearts become increasingly exhausted.
That is precisely why,
“income you can generate yourself, even if it's a little”
I believe, holds more meaning than just the numbers.
Now is an era where “experience” becomes value
In the past, when people talked about side jobs,
“special skills are required”
“physical strength is required”
there was that kind of image.
But it is different now.
・Life experience
・Caregiving experience
・Work experience
・Hobbies
・Learning
・Stories of failure
We are in an era where such things themselves become value.
In particular, the senior generation has “accumulated experience”.
They have perspectives that young people do not.
Even things that the person themselves considers “obvious” are things that surprisingly many people want to know.
Creating a “support,” not a “huge success”
I have recently been thinking,
that you don't have to aim for a “huge success” from the start,
is what I think.
First of all,
Creating "income to support yourself."
That alone can change your life significantly.
50,000 yen a month. That alone can change your life significantly.
50,000 yen a month.
100,000 yen a month.
Those small accumulations can sometimes create:
・Peace of mind
・Hope
・Confidence
・A sense of purpose
can sometimes create.
Not "it's too late," but "precisely because it's now"
As you get older,
"It's impossible at this point"
some people think that.
However, I felt the opposite during my caregiving life.
"There are things I can do precisely because it's now"
I felt that.
Things you have experienced.
Things you have overcome.
Things you have worried about.
These have the potential to be of great value to someone else.
Life doesn't have to change drastically all at once.
But,
"Just having a little more support"
can sometimes help a person look forward.
I truly realized that during my life as a caregiver.
