Is it okay to stay like this? 'I feel like I'm not living my own life,' is that really true?
Every day,
I am living properly.
I am working.
I am doing housework.
I am raising my children.
Even if I am praised by someone,
I am not doing anything that would get me scolded.
And yet,
suddenly,
'Whose life am I living?'
Don't you have moments when you think things like that?
Somewhere in your heart,
'Is it okay to stay like this?'
a small sense of discomfort,
sometimes quietly emerges.
What on earth,
is that discomfort trying to tell you?
What is truly painful is not being busy.
Perhaps,
what is painful is,
It might not be that your days are just busy.
What is truly painful is
that you have continued to prioritize
someone else's expectations over your own feelings.
'I want to do this.'
Even when you think that,
'But I might be a bother.'
'I might be opposed.'
'It's better to just endure it for the sake of peace.'
By repeating such choices
for years and decades,
before you know it,
you may find that you no longer know
what it is that you truly desire.
When was that conclusion born?
In your childhood.
'You're such a good child.'
When you were praised for that.
When you met your parents' expectations.
When you read the room at school.
When you conform to those around you at work.
We
learn little by little.
"A good person is someone who prioritizes others over themselves."
Of course,
it is important to be considerate of others.
But,
as those experiences pile up,
they can sometimes turn into this kind of assumption.
"It is correct to prioritize others over yourself."
"Is that really true?"
At this point,
please stop and pause for just a moment.
"It is correct to prioritize others over yourself."
Is that really true?
Your life,
whose life is it?
Is it your parents' life?
Is it your company's life?
Is it society's life?
Or is it,
your own life?
I, too, had left my own feelings behind.
I, too, used to,
work as a company employee in Tokyo.
I liked my job.
I was also given many experiences.
But,
from a certain day on,
my mind and body started to tell me little by little.
'Something feels painful.'
'Is it okay to stay like this?'
That voice,
at first, I thought it was just my imagination.
But,
it kept coming back.
So I,
asked myself.
'Is that really true?'
'Is this the only way to work?'
'Whose life am I living?'
I asked myself that question
over and over again.
After continuing to ask,
I moved to Hoshino Village in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
However,
I don't think I became happy just because I moved.
What was important was
not the choice of moving,
'Let's try trusting my own senses.'
It was deciding that.
The world doesn't change. But the way you see it does.
It wasn't that Tokyo was bad.
It wasn't that Hoshino Village was special.
The world,
hasn't changed at all.
What changed was,
the way I see the world.
'I have to do this.'
Instead of that,
"What do I want to do?"
Just by starting to ask that question,
even though it's the same world,
the color of the sky,
the scent of the wind,
and the way I interact with people,
have all started to look a little different.
Today's small exercise
Today,
just for one minute,
please ask yourself.
"What do I really want to do?"
It's okay if you don't get an answer right away.
It's okay if you don't know.
By continuing to ask,
your life will begin to move little by little.
Conclusion
Perhaps,
"Is it okay to stay like this?"
that sense of unease is,
It might not be a sign that you are on the wrong path in life.
It could be the voice of your true self,
'It's this way.'
quietly calling out to you.
Even if the world doesn't change,
the way you see the world will change.
And,
when your perspective changes,
life begins to move little by little.
Every time you repeat that question,
little by little,
the feeling of living your own life returns.
I believe that life is not about living someone else's version of success,
but rather,
a journey of gradually remembering,
the voice of your own heart.
That is why today, too, I,
ask myself.
'Is that really true?'
