TOEFL Payment Errors and Policies

If you're having trouble paying your TOEFL fees online, you might encounter errors like "Error 481" or "Error 101" on the ETS website. Here is what you can do:

  1. Clear your browser's cookies and cache, then try again.
  2. Use a different Internet browser like Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
  3. Consider using PayPal if your credit card isn't working.
  4. Double-check that the address on your ETS account matches the one on your credit card.
  5. If the issue persists, contact your bank to see if they can help.
  6. If all else fails, you can register and pay over the phone for test centers in the USA by calling +1-443-751-4862.

TOEFL Payment Policies

When making payments, ensure that all fees for tests and services are paid completely. Candidates should provide the correct amount in numerical form on their check or money order and sign it.

Any unpaid balances from previous ETS tests or services must be settled before registering for the TOEFL. Failure to pay may result in withholding of services or test scores.

If the fee is incorrect, the registration form or service request will be returned. Please note that payment methods may change without prior notice.

TOEFL Refund Policies

To receive a refund, it's essential to cancel your registration at least 4 days before the test date.

  • A 50% refund is available for cancellations made 4 days before the exam.
  • If ETS cancels the test administration, a full refund is provided.
  • If ETS cancels a test administration or TOEFL scores after the test, and you incurred travel expenses, you can claim a refund for documented expenses within one month.
  • Refunds are issued in US dollars, including applicable taxes.
  • Cash refunds are not provided. Refunds won't be issued if registration procedures weren't followed or required ID wasn't presented.
  • For payments made by card or e-check, refunds are credited back to the original source. For payments by personal check, allow 8 weeks for processing.
  • For payments made with a voucher, contact the voucher provider for refund procedures. Regular refund policies apply for appointments already scheduled.

TOEFL Disabilities Policies

Test takers with disabilities are encouraged to request accommodations during TOEFL registration. This can be done through their personal account by selecting the "Test Takers with Disabilities or Health-related Needs" option on the Home Page. From there, navigate to "TOEFL Accommodation Status/New Request" to submit any necessary accommodation requests for the exam.
