[Chrome] Show me your bookmark bar [Marshmallow Q&A]

Are you interested in the bookmark bar?

I recently received the same question from Marshmallow. It's rare, so let's make an article out of it!

I can't believe you noticed that lol
I'm so happy to have a fellow search-loving friend!

However, it's not that unusual of a bookmark bar...
Having said that, it's an otaku habit to not be able to stop talking once you start talking about things you love (*ノωノ)
Yes, I love PCs and organizing information, so I love organizing my browser too!

So this time, I'm talking about my PC browser. If you're a smartphone user, please read this imagining it's like placing shortcuts or apps on your home screen.
By the way, the 'extension note' mentioned in the Marshmallow is probably this one.

Anyway, want to see my bookmark bar?

The bookmark bar is the easiest to operate, so I register places I go to frequently.
Depending on the browser size, the right side might be hidden, so I put the ones I use often at the front. The order is the priority. I want to display a lot, so I edit the names to be short.

The leftmost ones are the ones I use often
  1. POTOFU: Link collection for myself (edit page)

  2. X: The SNS I use the most

  3. YouTubeStudio: My channel edit screen

  4. Gemini: Google's generative AI

  5. ChatGPT: OpenAI's conversational generative AI

  6. Perplexity: A search AI that has recently started sounding like ChatGPT

  7. Weverse: I dash over when I get a notification!!

  8. Instagram: I check this on my way home, so it's in this position

The middle is the second batch
  1. Discord: Hanging out with residents of the fandom I used to be in, and talking to my husband

  2. Amazon Prime: Shopping and 'Yet To Come in Busan' and 'D-DAY' are all here

  3. Pinterest: Going to look for interview images

  4. Hangul Input: Hangul browser keyboard

  5. Traditional/Simplified Input: Chinese handwriting input palette

  6. Papago: The go-to for Korean translation

  7. DeepL: Sometimes used for English translation

Since you can create your own servers on Discord, I made one for my family to exchange information with my husband. It allows for both chat and calls, it's easy to send images, and it's customizable, so it's more convenient than LINE. I plan to add the kids eventually.
I created a private channel here just for myself where I post screenshots for note, etc. Sometimes I accidentally post in the chat with my husband by mistake, though lol

Go to Amazon Music for streaming from (2).

Since browser translation performance has improved and I've been trying out various translation extensions, I haven't been using (6) and (7) much lately. They might disappear soon.
This is the translation support extension I've been using recently. It seems like you can choose from various AI translation engines if you pay, but for now, I'm using the free version.

Other than that, there are folders for organizing bookmarks.

Just hobbies and kids lol

By the way, you can export bookmarks, so I occasionally export them to check and delete things I don't look at anymore.
It's common to hoard things, forget about them, and create a geological layer of data. Squirrels might create a forest, but geeks only create a sea of corruption or junk memory, so let's organize.

But it's not just the bookmark bar, right?

Chrome startup page

In the case of a browser, you can choose the page that opens first, so I occasionally re-select and optimize that. These are the pages I use every day.

Since this disappears when closed, I specify pages that are registered on the bookmark bar or accessible from there. Therefore, the links often overlap with others.
If anything, it's more like it's there to open up things I want to work on immediately.

  1. BANGTANTV: Holy ground @ YouTube

  2. Extensions screen: Left open because I'm in a tool creation boom

  3. note dashboard: Left open for tool experimentation

  4. X: The SNS I use the most

  5. POTOFU: My own link collection (public page)

  6. TimeTree: Convenient for overlaying family and BTS-related schedules.

  7. Gemini: Google's generative AI (support for tool creation).

  8. ChatGPT: OpenAI's conversational generative AI.

For streaming on YouTube Music, use (1). You can get there by changing the "www" in the URL to "music" as shown below.

https://www.youtube.com/@BTS

The collection of links for (5) is here. I swap them out as needed.
I also often use this for managing votes when there's an awards ceremony. Because I'll forget otherwise...

Chrome homepage

Where the Google search bar appears.

Second priority pages, or pages I often need to reopen.
  1. note change history: I add to this when there's a major update, so it's necessary.

  2. Marshmallow: I've been getting quite a few lately, so I moved it to the front.

  3. TikTok: Waiting for Hobi's dance challenge.

  4. TimeTree: Convenient for overlaying family and BTS-related schedules.

  5. Glige: For app creation testing.

  6. KBS: I keep an eye on this because there are viewer petitions and song reviews.

  7. SUNO: Music generation AI.

  8. Fotojet: For image creation.

  9. GMail: Email (1)

  10. dMail: Email (2)

Most of Bangtan's official accounts are in POTOFU, but if they aren't right in front of me, my viewing frequency drops, so I want to keep the main ones in a place where I can access them in 1-2 clicks.

For humans, "what is not seen does not exist," so I put things I want to use often where they can be seen. Don't you have items you've put away and then forgotten about?

Manage browser and other launches via startup

I set Chrome, items I'm working on, and things I use frequently to open automatically at startup. Recently, that includes my text editor for coding.

Don't forget the taskbar, Quick Access, and Start menu

Here is how I pin to Quick Access

I love shortcuts, so I'm a big fan of pinning things to the Windows taskbar, File Explorer's Quick Access, and the Start menu!

My taskbar has Office tools, Snipping Tool for screenshots, LINE, and Steam lined up. Aside from the LINE for PTA, it's pretty similar to my work PC lol. I spend a lot of time there, so I'm used to it... (Please refer to the next item for the image)

I open File Explorer all the time, so it's convenient to have shortcuts there. If I access the same folder three times in one day, I pin it to Quick Access immediately.
I don't look at the Start menu much, so I keep things like Spotify there for when I want to focus. It's good to group similar things together.

I also use the desktop

I don't like a cluttered desktop, so I basically only allow icons in one vertical column as permanent residents; if it grows beyond that, I organize it.

Some people use their wallpaper to categorize things, but I like to rearrange my icons, so distinguishing by location didn't work for me.
Instead, I take screenshots of tips or notes I shouldn't forget and set them as my wallpaper. It's convenient because I can see them immediately with 'Windows key + D'.

The wallpaper is temporary. I'm not a fan of themes either, as movement distracts me.

I wonder what everyone else does

This is how I use my PC and browser.
Looking back at it like this, I wonder why I feel a slight sense of embarrassment, like showing someone my bookshelf (*ノωノ)

Basically, I use different registration locations based on priority for 'Information Gathering, AI, and Daily Management.' Since I don't spend much time active at home, it's specialized for fandom activities and my children.
By the way, I have an external HDD where I keep administrative data (for home procedures and work).

It's a very ordinary setup for me, but I hope it's helpful to someone!
Come to think of it, there aren't many opportunities to see other people's desktops in daily life. Maybe I'll go check my husband's PC later.

Bonus: Bookmarks

Maybe the only thing I check every day is the official SNS lol.
These are the bookmarks I usually use, but there are few places I check regularly.

Other than that, I just look at news shared by ARMY or articles recommended by the AI algorithm that has learned my preferences. If something catches my eye, I paste the link or a screenshot into my personal notes (Discord) and look into it when I get home.
Since I search endlessly when something comes up, the AI learns and starts suggesting similar articles (*ノωノ)

I feel like I've started to notice things like 'Isn't this that?' because I'm learning proper nouns by creating organizational charts.
