This note organizes the structure and intent of the latter half of Chapter 1 (Sections 3 and 4).
The latter half of this chapter deals with 'persistent structures' and the 'budding of perception'.
First Layer: The Outside (Conditions for the formation of the universe)
In Section 3, a 'continuing structure' is established for the first time.
In the text, I write:
Forms appeared many times, and were lost many times.
It was more natural for them not to remain.
This describes the general state of the universe.
Many structures collapse due to collisions or gravitational instability.
However, within that,
Only those that did not collapse continued to maintain their form.
This state emerges.
This is not because they were 'chosen,' but simply the result of 'not collapsing'.
Furthermore, the conditions are severe.
・Many planets are gas or ice, not rocky planets
・Even if they are rocky planets, they are not necessarily at the right distance from their star
・If the star is short-lived, the environment will not be maintained for long
・They are also often destroyed by collisions with other celestial bodies
Therefore,
Environments that exist stably for a long period are extremely rare.
Section 4 deals with the state in which such structures are maintained.
In the text,
It did not suddenly become hot, nor
did it suddenly become cold.
indicates a state where there are no extreme environmental changes.
For liquid water to exist,
• Temperature stability
• Balance of energy budget
are necessary.
However, this is also easily disrupted.
Therefore,
environments where liquid water can continue to exist for billions of years are extremely limited.
In the text, this is expressed as,
There were no special events. Only the state of being able to continue remained quietly.
is how it is expressed.
Second Layer: Inside (The Birth of Perception)
In the latter half of Section 4, the most important turning point of this chapter occurs.
What had been depicted until then was a chain of events.
However, here, the question of 'how to perceive it' emerges.
With the sentence in the text,
One cannot even confirm whether it was there or not.
the problem of 'perception' is introduced.
For the first time here,
👉 Event → Perception
a shift to occurs.
Furthermore,
It was not yet known what it was.
It was also not known why it was there.
Due to this,
・What (existence)
・Why (reason)
these two questions arise simultaneously.
This is not merely a question.
👉 It is a movement to distinguish existence and find relationships.
👉 In other words, it is the beginning of observation.
Summary in one line
・Section 3: The first appearance of a continuing structure
・Section 4: The first appearance of recognition
Final summary
Chapter 1 is composed of the following structure.
・First half: Materials and arrangement (outside)
・Second half: Persistence and recognition (inside)
And finally,
👉 The world is established
👉 However, it cannot yet be understood
it ends in this state.
