Where did the elements come from?
Elements necessary for life, such as carbon, oxygen, and iron,
👉 Are produced by nuclear fusion inside stars
However, at this stage, they are trapped inside the stars and
cannot combine with other events.
Release of elements
Stars do not last forever.
・Expansion
・Collapse
・Explosion
Through processes such as these,
👉 The elements produced inside are released into outer space
Only here does matter gain the potential to combine with other structures.
Rearrangement of matter
The released matter spreads through the universe, but its distribution is not uniform.
・Differences in density
・Differences in motion
cause imbalances to occur.
Due to these imbalances,
👉 Matter begins to gather again
Most do not form
But what is important is,
👉 Most accumulations do not last
for long.
・They do not gather sufficiently
・They collapse during formation
👉 This is the general state of the universe.
Formation of Rocky Planets
Only a very small fraction of matter
・becomes gravitationally stable
・settles as a solid
👉 and becomes a rocky planet.
However,
👉 many celestial bodies are gas or ice,
👉 and rocky planets are exceptional existences.
Relationship with the Star
Even if a planet exists, that alone is not enough.
What is needed is:
・An appropriate distance from the star
・The star's long lifespan
・Stable radiation
In extreme environments,
・high temperatures
・low temperatures
・sudden environmental changes
occur, and long-term stability cannot be established.
Conditions for Liquid Water
For liquid water to exist,
・Temperature must be kept within a certain range
・Energy balance must be maintained
are necessary.
However,
・Orbital fluctuations
・Stellar activity
・Celestial collisions
can easily disrupt these conditions.
👉 Therefore
👉 Environments capable of maintaining liquid water over a timescale of billions of years are extremely rare
