Scene 42-3: Understanding Before Judgment
Four-year-old W is full of energy at preschool.
She plays well with friends, is physically robust, and is a child who is always smiling.
One day at pickup time.
The childcare worker says while looking at the clock.
"You're a little late again today."
Before long, her mother rushes in wearing flip-flops.
"I'm sorry, I forgot again..."
W has a slightly sulky look on her face,
and while saying "Not again,"
she immediately starts talking happily about what happened that day and goes home holding her mother's hand.
When the childcare worker visits their home at a later date,
the room is somewhat messy, and the mother says,
"I'm really bad at housework..." with a wry smile.
Even in such circumstances, W says,
"They call it curry, but there's no ingredients in it," and laughs as she talks.
There were also mornings when she would arrive at preschool with dirty clothes and unkempt hair.
Which of the following is the correct understanding and response regarding W and her mother at the preschool??

Key points for childcare
You cannot immediately conclude that it is neglect based solely on appearance.
Interacting in a way that blames them for a disorganized life causes the loss of opportunities for support.
Also, conveying words that deny the parent to the child undermines their sense of security.
What is important is an attitude of carefully listening to and understanding the difficulties in the background.
Support begins with understanding, not with correcting.
By continuing the dialogue, the parent-child life will gradually stabilize.
