Why I, who was satisfied with a Wi-Fi extender, started seriously considering mesh Wi-Fi

Currently using a Wi-Fi extender

Therefore, a different Wi-Fi name from the original Wi-Fi is displayed on computers and smartphones.

The surprisingly troublesome re-configuration of Wi-Fi

The disadvantage of the Wi-Fi extender method is that settings must be configured for each device.

If it were just for a smartphone, it wouldn't be that much trouble.

However, modern households have

• smart speakers

, and many other Wi-Fi devices.

If you want to connect to the Wi-Fi on the extender side, you have to configure the settings on each individual device.

The more devices you have, the more troublesome management becomes.

Mesh Wi-Fi means 'the whole house is one Wi-Fi'

On the other hand, mesh Wi-Fi has a different approach.

Even if you place multiple devices, they are recognized as a single Wi-Fi network from the user's perspective.

Even if you move around the house, the connection automatically switches to the optimal device.

There is only one Wi-Fi name as well.

The user does not need to be aware of anything.

It is like an image where the entire house becomes one large Wi-Fi area.

Furthermore, since you can add satellite units as needed,

• Two-story houses

• Houses with many rooms

• Apartments with layouts where signals struggle to reach

It also makes it easier to handle situations like these.

Things to check before installation

However, there are some points to keep in mind before installation.

If the router you are currently using supports mesh Wi-Fi, it is relatively easy.

You can install it by purchasing the necessary number of compatible satellite units.

However, if your current router is not compatible, the situation changes.

In that case,

• a mesh-compatible main unit

• mesh-compatible satellite units

must be purchased.

In other words, you will need at least two or more devices.

The installation cost may be higher than that of a Wi-Fi extender.

Investing in a comfortable communication environment

I currently have no major complaints with my Wi-Fi extender.

Even so, I felt the appeal of an environment where I could comfortably use the same Wi-Fi anywhere in the house.

Especially in households that use multiple devices such as PCs, smartphones, and tablets, I think the benefit of reduced management effort is significant.

Although there is an initial cost, once it is set up, the subsequent comfort might be quite different.

I am not going to install it right away, but I feel it is well worth considering as a future capital investment.
