Everyone's Favorite Mohei: The Latest Volume of "Mikawa Zohei Kokoroe"

I am a passionate fan of "Mikawa Zohei Kokoroe" by Tadamasa Ihara.

I have been listening to it on Amazon Audible for a long time.

A boy who was driven out of his village after beating his sister's fiancé to death becomes a foot soldier to survive, and by the Battle of Sekigahara, he has become a high-ranking retainer of the Tokugawa clan with a stipend of 5,000 koku.

It is a work of fiction where he rises through the ranks as the commander of the "Teppo Hyakunin-gumi" (100-man gun squad) while being tossed about by the unreasonable demands of Ieyasu and Heihachiro Honda. Mohei does not actually exist.

Even though he doesn't exist, it is very well-crafted. It is a series of emotions and laughter.

Latest Volume: Mikawa Zohei Kokoroe 18: Retreat Justice (Futaba Bunko)

Volume 18 covers the latter half of Sekigahara. It depicts the exploits of Mohei, who is always assigned the most troublesome roles.

I imagine it will be filled with his usual inner voice: "Hey, hey, hey! My Lord! You old badger! You're dumping another impossible task on me again..."

I am always eagerly awaiting the latest volume on Audible. I am counting down the days. I imagine that at this rate, Mikawa Zohei Kokoroe will at least include the Siege of Osaka, or perhaps he will be by Ieyasu's side when he retires as the retired shogun (Ogosho).
