Bath time with a 0-year-old and a 2-year-old. Solo parenting is tough, so I'm asking my husband for help.
Giving a bath to a 0-year-old and a 2-year-old by yourself is a major challenge.
Chasing around a 2-year-old who is running around naked,
soothing a crying 0-year-old from inside the bath using only your voice,
and cleaning yourself as if it were a mercy, using the leftover body soap from washing the kids and the 10 seconds of shower time the 2-year-old allowed you, all while freezing as you dress the kids—that is how you somehow manage to stay clean.
I can't keep doing this every single day.
I want to write about how calm and efficient (?) bath time could be if my partner helped out.
A crying 0-year-old, a running 2-year-old, a freezing mother, and a father who takes it all in.
In the combination of a 0-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a mother, the mother is the weakest link.
When the father enters the scene, the mother suddenly becomes the strongest! ...Well, not exactly. But she becomes capable of putting up a decent fight.
In our house, I am in charge of washing in the bath, and my husband is in charge of getting them dressed.
Truth be told, I want to take a bath by myself, but our 2-year-old tyrant says,
"No, that's wrong! It has to be Mommy!"
and won't take a bath with Daddy...
The 2-year-old who doesn't want to take a bath. You can call the 2-year-old from inside the bath by saying, "Mommy is going in first. Oh, let's make bubbles with the ducky!" Once they are in the mood, Daddy supports the 2-year-old with getting dressed.
The 2-year-old who doesn't want to get out of the bath. Even if they start playing in the bath and show no signs of leaving, don't panic. Even if the 0-year-old cries, your husband is in the room to hold them. You can watch the Tomica cars being washed with a calm heart.
The 2-year-old who wants to wash the baby. It is quite difficult to wash a 0-year-old who is kicking around vigorously while trying to control a 2-year-old who is at the age where they want to help. But if Daddy is there, you can release the 2-year-old from the bath before putting the 0-year-old in. Go on out.
The 2-year-old who doesn't want to get dressed. I understand you don't want to wear clothes. At least put on a diaper. Today, I'm taking a break from being desperate while shaking out my wet hair. Once you leave the bathroom, the person in charge is Daddy.
The freezing mother. I can't wash my body or hair, I can't soak in the hot water for long, and I can't even dry off or moisturize after getting out of the bath. Thanks to Daddy, even a mother who can't do anything can finally wash properly, warm up, and get out.
Thank you, Daddy.

Of course, there are times when it doesn't go well
Even with such a reliable father, there are, of course, times when things don't go well.
Taking off clothes? "Mommy!"
Washing in the bath? "Mommy!"
Getting out and drying off? "Mommy!"
Putting on a diaper? "Mommy!"
"No, that's wrong, Daddy! It has to be Mommy!"
Depending on the mood of the 2-year-old tyrant, there are times when Daddy can't help at all.
Even so, just having you there is a big help.
Even if you can't help out, just having you there is a big help. Just knowing that someone is watching me get pushed around by a little tyrant makes me want to laugh. Even a 2-year-old's unreasonable demands
can become entertainment if there's someone there to tease them with me, saying, "Whoa! You're being such a spoiled little boy!"
When we're laughing like that, the 2-year-old gets into a better mood, too, and sometimes even gets dressed without a fuss.
When there are two of us, it just makes a world of difference in my peace of mind.
When things are tough, let's face it together, not alone.
This is such a fun time in our lives, so let's laugh as much as we can.
