Shion stared intently at the marine blue crystals inside the transparent reagent bottle.

Daunium is reddish-brown in its metallic state, but becomes deep blue crystals when it forms a compound. That color was like the real ocean that Shion, who was born and raised in a space colony, had seen for the first time on the planet Gaia.

Shion had been to an artificial beach in a space colony. However, the water in the large pool that mimicked the ocean was nearly transparent. This is because there is no sun in a space colony, and it is lit by artificial lighting. The ocean looks blue because the blue light in sunlight is not easily absorbed by water and scatters underwater. When Shion arrived on the planet Gaia, the first impression was, "What a colorful world this is."

Shion had unexpectedly managed to obtain information regarding Daunium, which could potentially be an element for hydrogen storage alloys.

Daunium was an element that did not exist on the planet Earth. The reason the scouts who had infiltrated earlier could not obtain that information in advance was that it was still in the research and development stage on Gaia. In the Science University laboratory, the development of hydrogen storage alloys using Daunium was underway, but it was a top-secret project commissioned by a certain government and had not yet been made public.

Shion claimed it was part of an experiment in the Bakken (Chemistry Research Department) and tried creating a hydrogen storage alloy with Daunium. Shion had received a lecture on how to create it from father Kaito at the Bakken (General Chemistry Research Institute) in the space colony. As a result of having the created alloy store hydrogen, it was found to have a much higher capacity than alloys made from Earth's resources.

Returning to the dormitory, Shion contacted Kaito.

"Father, I tried making a hydrogen storage alloy with Daunium."
"And, what was the result?"

"At the very least, it seems to have more than double the capacity."
"That's amazing! So, how much are the Daunium reserves likely to be?"

"It seems to be treated as a base metal on Gaia, so there is plenty."
"I see. If we can get our hands on Daunium, the energy problem will be solved all at once."

In the room next to Shion's, the communication between Shion and Kaito was being intercepted.
