I was immersed in my memories.

After finishing his communication with his son Shion, who is on the planet Gaia, Kaito's eyes were drawn to a recommended image on his smartphone. It was a photo from planet Earth, where Kaito lived when he was a child.

In the photo, a young Kaito is smiling innocently on a sandy beach. The background shows a vivid blue sea and a sky that stretches on forever. It was a real ocean, not an artificial beach in a space colony. The days he spent on Earth felt nostalgic, and something welled up in his chest.

Just as he had earned his doctorate and started working as a professional at a university, that cursed war began. A single nuclear missile launched by a leader of a major power triggered a nuclear exchange. Many lives were lost, and Earth became a barren planet where no living things could survive. Kaito's family also lost their lives in this war...

Kaito quietly closed his smartphone and headed to the Ministry of Resources. He was going to report that Downium, the raw material for hydrogen storage alloys, was abundant on the planet Gaia, which Shion was currently exploring.

Upon receiving the report, the Ministry of Resources immediately dispatched personnel to Gaia and obtained samples of Downium.

On Gaia, nuclear fusion power has not yet been developed, and the main energy sources are nuclear and thermal power. In recent years, natural energy has also been actively utilized, with large amounts of solar power panels installed by clearing mountain slopes.

Downium has high electrical conductivity and is generally used for electrical cables. Since solar power panels are installed in remote areas far from human habitation, it was easy to collect the Downium electrical cables without attracting attention.

At the Ministry of Resources, they created a prototype of a hydrogen storage alloy using Downium. The results showed that it had more than five times the hydrogen storage capacity of conventional ones. Furthermore, depending on the composition, it had the potential to be more than ten times greater.

Around that time, at Earth's Ministry of Defense, a plan for a Space Force invasion of Gaia was about to be submitted to the National Diet.
