2025/09/06 The Courage to Wait for Children's Choices ~Waiting is Also an Important Option~
2025/09/06
The bedroom is still dim. The towel blanket has been pushed down to the foot of the bed. That's what woke me up.
The sisters were turning around like clock hands. Despite their peaceful sleeping faces, their sleeping habits are acrobatic.
Both my husband and I are calm sleepers. Why do my usually quiet daughters move so much? I smile at the mystery of blood ties, as it reminds me of my own mother.
Outside the window, it is a cloudy sky. Even though I know the forecast says it will be hot during the day, the morning moment was wrapped in a somewhat calm atmosphere.
An invitation from the teacher
Piano lessons in the morning.
The teacher asked, "Why don't you enter the competition?"
She asked last year too, but we declined.
This year, she is pushing even harder, saying, "I really think you should."
As a parent, I feel proud that they are recognized that much.
However, my eldest daughter immediately replied, "I don't want to."
My second daughter also said, "It's fine to wait until I'm in first grade."
The reason is, "Because it makes me nervous."
She says that level of nervousness is enough just for the recital.
I know she has a personality that wants to avoid nervousness, as she even asked to reduce her pieces from two to one for the recital.
In other words, it is proof that she wants to continue at her own pace.
As a parent, I want them to challenge themselves because it is a valuable experience. In my heart, I have a strong desire to "make them do it."
But it is clear that I shouldn't force them to take on a challenge while ignoring their feelings of "I don't want to."

"Waiting" as an option
I tried to give them a nudge, but the ones doing it say it's impossible.
Challenges are certainly important. But perhaps it is also a parent's role to wait for the moment when the child thinks, "I want to do it" on their own.
I hope that someday, a day will come when they think, "I want to try it."
By respecting their "I don't want to," the time they can continue to love music will last. I am proud that we were asked, and I will keep that pride in my heart.
I will choose to wait for now, rather than forcing them.
…or so I tell myself.
Between anxiety and peace of mind
In the afternoon, my husband's motorcycle broke down while he was out, and I was genuinely worried about his late return.
Meanwhile, my second daughter developed a fever, and I am worried about what will happen to tomorrow's cheerleading recital. I hope her fever doesn't go any higher.
A family's daily life is a series of unexpected events.
Even so, to be able to say "it will surely be okay," waiting and preparing are essential.
When do you choose the "courage to wait" for your family or yourself?
Choosing to wait might also be a step toward moving forward.

I am always grateful for your warm likes and comments.
There isn't just one right answer.
At a pace that is comfortable for you, little by little.
Let's live tomorrow, too, without pushing ourselves, carefully and cherishingly. See you again!
