[Lyrics] Are the lyrics to "I See the Light" exactly the same in meaning as the original?? [Tangled]
Good evening 🌙 It's Myu!
Today, it's "I See the Light" from Disney 🐭.
Disney songs have an original English version, which is then translated into languages around the world, but I wondered if the translated versions are exactly the same as the original, so I decided to check it out 🤣

I See the Light (Japanese)
I See the Light (English)
I will compare only the first verse 🍀*゜
Japanese)
I've always dreamed
Alone in the tower
How wonderful the outside world must be
English)
All those days watching from the windows
(Days spent watching from the windows)
All those years outside looking in
(A life spent trying to see the outside world)
All that time never even knowing
(Time I could never have understood)
Just how blind I've been
(How closed off my world was)
Japanese)
Tonight under the starry sky, as if the fog has cleared
I finally found the place where I belong
English)
Now I'm here, blinking in the starlight
(I am here now, in a place where stars twinkle)
Now I'm here, suddenly I see
(And unexpectedly, it comes into view)
Standing here, it's all so clear
(It's so beautiful)
I'm where I'm meant to be
(I am where I wanted to be)
Japanese)
Shining, the light that illuminates the future
A special night where dreams come true
The world is completely different from yesterday
Finally, I met the important person
English)
And at last I see the light
(Finally I see that light)
And it's like the fog has lifted
(It's like the fog has cleared)
And at last I see the light
(Finally I saw that light)
And it's like the sky is new
(It's like the sky has been reborn)
And it's warm and real and bright
(It's warm and shining right in front of me)
And the world has somehow shifted
(My world has somehow changed)
All at once everything looks different
(Suddenly everything looks different)
Now that I see you
(Now that I have met you)
Comparing the Japanese version with my own translation of the English version, while the nuances remain, there are many places where completely different words appear, right?
This is the difficulty of translating not just for meaning, but to match the rhythm and sound.
I tried to translate it faithfully to the original while keeping the atmosphere of the anime in mind, but there are many more characters compared to the Japanese version.
You definitely couldn't sing it like this.
I always thought people who do these kinds of translations were geniuses, but after trying it myself, I felt it deeply once again.
The process of exploring nuances from words was very fun, but matching it to the sound is really difficult...
I would be happy if you could understand just how different they are!
What did you all think after comparing them?
By the way, my personal touch is that I translated "And at last I see the light" slightly differently both times.
As a curious and inquisitive writer,
I will be posting interesting things related to English at my own pace 🍀*゜
