"End of August 2018. Last year, I had a plan where a local guide would come to pick me up, but this year, it was just flight and hotel reservations. Naturally, I had to check into the hotel by myself."

"It hadn't snowed yet in Helsinki in early December 2019; instead, I was met with cold rain in the mornings and evenings. I almost wished it would snow instead. It was a 6-day trip that passed by while I looked up at the sky."

"I stopped by the huge food section in the basement of the Stockmann department store and walked around every corner. After 10 p.m., I returned to the hotel.
Dinner was deli food bought at Stockmann. Since it's sold by weight, I can eat a little bit of many things. Chicken and baby corn curry, rice, garlic potato gratin, and cabbage rolls. This cost about 1,000 yen. Everything was delicious, and the cabbage rolls were recommended by the lady at the counter. They had rice inside and were chewy."

"Going to Cafe Succès to eat cinnamon rolls. It's a cafe that I was moved by how delicious it was during my previous solo trip. I ordered a cinnamon roll with coffee. I eat it. That's right! Last time, I entered the shop as soon as it opened, so the cinnamon roll was freshly made and warm. I deeply regretted not doing that again."

"At the long-established Cafe Engel right in front of Helsinki Cathedral, the couple at the next table were eating something that looked delicious. It looked like a crispy fried hamburger steak. From their conversation, it seemed to be a vegetable dish. It was reddish, so it might be carrots. My desire to try it swelled up. But, I was already full from the cinnamon roll earlier. Tomorrow night, I will definitely eat the same thing here!"p.61

"7 p.m. Dazzling sun. For dinner, as I decided yesterday, I went to Cafe Engel in front of Helsinki Cathedral. I told them I wanted to eat a vegetable dish. I wished, 'Please let it be the dish the couple at the next table was eating yesterday...' and the same dish arrived.

What looked like a hamburger steak was something like shredded beets shaped into a ball and fried. It was crispy, so maybe they mixed in flour. I eat it with a large amount of mayonnaise. It was the saltiness my tired body was craving."

It's a long-established cafe where you can see Helsinki Cathedral from the window.
The beet hamburger steak arrived. The beet patty is in two layers, and grilled mushrooms are served on the side. As always, the amount of mayonnaise is amazing. I ordered it again out of morbid curiosity."

Cafe Engel is an iconic coffee house in Senate Square, directly opposite Helsinki Cathedral. The building in which Cafe Engel is located is one of the oldest in Helsinki. The ground floor was built in 1765 in the place of an old pipe factory. The architect is unknown. In the 1830's two floors were added and Carl Ludvig Engel (1778-1840) designed the facade.
