#1 The True Meaning of "How to Communicate" I Found After Two Leaves of Absence and Despair
Last updated: April 4, 2026
Hello, I'm Etchan.
I am one of the people whose life changed dramatically thanks to
"Personality Statistics,"
a method specialized in human relationships.
In this note, I share "What exactly is Personality Statistics?"
based on my own real-life experiences.
I would be happy if I could deliver
the words that need to reach
those who are feeling uneasy about their human relationships.
--- 📖 The day a senior colleague who had ignored me for 10 years gave me a coffee. The cause was the difference in our "innate personality types." 👉 [Click here for the article]
The story of mine that is about to begin
is a story that started from my despair,
where I wanted to die every time I was told "congratulations."
But, if you are currently feeling,
"Maybe this job isn't right for me..."
or "feeling suffocated by the
gap between the 'ideal self' demanded by the company or society and my 'true self'"
If you are feeling that way,
I believe that my story of two leaves of absence
and my recovery from despair
will provide some hints for you to break free from that suffocation.
I truly believe that.
For my self-introduction, I would appreciate it if you could take a look at this article.
Those days when things were peaceful
When I was holding the controls of a train as a driver,
I was satisfied with my life.
I was married, blessed with two daughters,
and the experience of raising juniors as an instructor
was a great source of pride.
I received a salary slightly better than the average,
and above all, I had
"my own time" and "time off with my family".
That is precisely why
there was a path I stubbornly avoided.
That was the path to a supervisory position.
・My body would get exhausted, and I would have no time.
・I would have to evaluate subordinates and sometimes provide strict guidance.
・Given my personality, it didn't seem rewarding.
I felt absolutely no appeal in it...
I avoided company gatherings as much as possible, and in my own way, I continued to silently signal,
“I am fine just the way I am.”
The despair known as an unwanted 'promotion'
However, that modest resistance ended in vain.
One day, I was appointed to a supervisory position.
It was what society calls a
“promotion” or “career advancement.”
My colleagues said to me,
“Congratulations.”
But all that was in my heart was
a pitch-black sense of despair
without a single shred of hope.
A career I never wanted at all...
The job of managing subordinates, where I couldn't find a shred of reward...
Nights after saying harsh things to subordinates, I couldn't sleep as their faces haunted me.
When giving evaluations, I would freeze, thinking I wasn't much better myself.
Just as I thought?
No, it was beyond imagination.
The job of a supervisor quietly, yet surely, eroded my mind and body.
Sleepless nights and two leaves of absence
About a month after becoming a supervisor,
even though my body was as tired as lead,
I found I couldn't sleep at all,
neither at the office nor when I got home.
If you can't sleep, naturally, your mind and body will break down.
And so, I was forced to take a
three-month leave of absence.
Although I managed to return,
a few years later...
I lost my mental and physical balance again,
and this time, I would experience an even longer leave of absence of four months.
(I just want to quit my job...)
I thought that so many times.
But when I actually started thinking about it seriously,
I was only made aware of
my own helplessness.
I joined the company right after high school
and only knew about the railway company.
I didn't have a single skill
that would be useful in the outside world.
And yet, I had a family to support.
I couldn't even quit.
In the darkness of being trapped on all sides,
I just kept struggling.
A ray of light in the darkness

"First, I have to acquire some kind of skill."
In the darkness, as if clinging to something,
I faced
the computer screen.
I tried various things like blogging, affiliate marketing, and video production.
While doing affiliate marketing,
I happened to come across
"Personality Statistics (Communication Style Certification)"
the words.
To be honest, at first I thought lightly,
"Well, I'm somewhat confident in my communication skills, after all."
That's about as much as I thought.
Besides, I thought it would be better to experience it myself
if I were to introduce it,
so I signed up for the
"Communication Style Certification Intermediate Level."
However, as soon as I started learning,
I felt like I had been hit on the head,
a tremendous shock.
"Just because our innate personality types are different, the way we receive words is so different...!"
The words I had said thinking they were for the best
might have been painful for the other person.
The relationships I thought
were going well
might have actually been
just the other person putting up with me.
What I had thought of as
"communication" until now
might have
just been me talking to myself...
I was stunned.
And at the same time, in the darkness,
I felt like I could see
a clear ray of light.
Regaining my true self
Personality statistics taught me
"who I am."
I am a "Peace Type" who wishes to
move forward together
happily and harmoniously with everyone.
How much stress it was for someone like me
to stand above others
and provide evaluations and guidance.
When I was finally able to objectively understand the true nature of my long-standing suffering,
I was enveloped in a quiet sense of emotion.
"It's okay to be myself. Let me try facing my subordinates in my own way."
Once I was able to think that way, my heart felt a little lighter.
There is an unforgettable event
that proves that change.
A certain subordinate
left the company after two years.
However, until the day he left, I mobilized all the knowledge I had learned and
continued to use the "way of communicating" that suited his personality type.
And, after he left the company.
I, who should just be an old guy,
received a message from him.
I will let only you, Assistant Manager Morimoto, know about my current situation.
Even now, he faithfully keeps in touch with me.
This is, for me,
an irreplaceable treasure
worth more than any title or salary.

My determination
From this experience,
I made a firm resolution.
The "wisdom" of personality statistics—I want more people to know about it.
Just like I once was,
within an organization, within human relationships,
I believe I can save even one person
who is suffering all alone.
Because I have experienced two leaves of absence,
as a health officer,"Mental safety"is something I am
extra particular about (laughs).
This is the starting point
and everything for why I continue this activity.
The wisdom of "how to communicate"
that saved me from this despair
wouldsave my mother who lives far away
and even lead to an NHK appearance, which I did not know at the time.
I will talk about that in the next article.
If this experience of mine
can become a small trigger
to brighten your tomorrow,
there is nothing that would make me happier.
Thank you for reading
until the end.
