Being both a provider of support and a person directly affected

Up until now, I have been sharing information about the fields and systems of nursing care, medicine, and welfare.

However, this time, I will touch a little bit upon my own background.

When I was 30 years old, I lost my mother to acute heart disease.

It was the day after she had unusually called me and told me, "I'm doing well."

When I was 30, I used to commute by motorcycle.
On the way, I had two missed calls on my mobile phone, and I noticed them through the vibration...

I played back two messages.
The first was a notification that she had collapsed and been taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The second was a notification that she had passed away.

In that moment,

an "event as a family member, not as a provider of support" suddenly began.

After that, time passed, and three years ago,

my spouse collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

Epileptic seizures continued, and at one point, their blood pressure even exceeded 300, followed by repeated seizures and hospitalizations.

Although things have settled down now,

confusion in memory and difficulties with language remain, and they have obtained a disability certificate.

Our lives have changed significantly.

And furthermore, my father.

Since the passing of my mother at the beginning of this story, I have been living alone.

I had always left the housework to my mother in the old-fashioned way, so I wondered if I would be okay living alone, but I found myself living quite comfortably. Then, an abnormality occurred while living alone, and I collapsed and was transported to the hospital.

I underwent surgery for a cerebral infarction.

During my hospitalization, I experienced severe delirium,

and there were also violent outbursts, which created a difficult situation in my relationship with the medical staff.

Then, I received a call from the hospital to discuss my progress, and I went with my brother to hear the explanation. The doctor said, 'No matter how much dementia you have, if you commit violence against the nurses, it's a lawsuit. Your wounds and progress are fine now, so you are being discharged today,' and I was discharged that very day.

From that moment on,

I began the process of redesigning my life, including applying for long-term care insurance and consulting with the community comprehensive support center.

While placing a burden on my spouse, I spent my days trying to maintain some kind of balance.

Currently,

I am maintaining my life through regular contact, monitoring, and the use of tools like GPS.

I am in a position where I provide support in the field.

But at the same time,

I have also experienced the position of being a family member.

There are things you cannot see from only one perspective.

The reality that cannot be understood by support providers alone.

A structure that is difficult to notice from within the family alone.

Precisely because I have seen both sides,

I continue to share information while striving to remain as neutral as possible.

However, it is ultimately just me as an individual who is sharing this.

I believe there may be biases or oversights.

If you notice anything, I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

Both in the field and at home,

in order to think about a 'sustainable form'.

I will continue to share information in the future.
I look forward to your continued support.
