[Earning with Suno.ai Part 1] How to publish songs you've created on Spotify (DistroKid) and monetize them.
Hello, I am AI FREAK.
Recently, on X, YouTube, and other platforms,
You can earn money with songs made on Suno.ai!
information like this has been increasing.
While I thought it sounded a bit fishy, I also felt there was some potential, so I decided to actually verify it.
First, I have to create a song with AI and distribute it, so I thought,
"Suno.ai" and try uploading it to Spotify!
I gave it a try.
It was more complicated than I expected, so I will share the process with you.
Can you really earn money with songs made on Suno.ai?
What steps should you take?
I would like to report on this while sharing the actual situation.
Let's get started right away.
First of all, what is Suno.ai?
First, you need to create a song, which is generated using a music generation AI called Suno.
The following is an example of a song made with Suno,
you can create songs like this.
By the way, if you use image generation AI or video generation AI, you can even create things like music videos.
As you can tell from listening to the above,
hasn't it reached a quality that is now on par with what humans create?
don't you think?
Of course, there are still some odd parts here and there, but I actually quite like the chorus section and find myself listening to it on repeat. Haha.
If you'd like, I'd be happy if you could subscribe to the channel and listen to it.
(*Only if you like it, of course)
I've explained 'how to create songs with Suno.ai' and 'how to create MVs' in a previous note, so please refer to that.
I will proceed with the assumption that you have a song created with Suno ready to go.
Steps to publish songs on Spotify

Now, I'd like to go ahead and publish the song on Spotify, but it seems you cannot upload directly to Spotify apparently.
So, you need to go through something called a music distributor (distribution agency service).
At this point, I found it a bit confusing, but please rest assured, it's actually not that big of a deal.
By the way, there are many music distributors, and the main options include
DistroKid ... Unlimited song uploads for about $20/year and up. Fast speed and popular with beginners.
TuneCore ... Pay-per-song or annual plans available. Extensive Japanese support.
RouteNote ... Free plan available (takes a percentage of sales as a fee). Paid plans allow you to keep 100% of earnings.
CD Baby, LANDR and many others.
and so on.
You can choose the one that suits you best from the above, but if you plan to release a lot of songs, DistroKid is said to be the most cost-effective.
I plan to upload many songs, so I decided to choose DistroKid. However, if you want to keep initial investment low, the RouteNote free plan might be fine too.
(*Postscript)
I received a comment, so I did a quick search, and it seems that some other distributors 'do not allow the upload of AI-generated music in the first place'.

I only asked GPT about the above, so I cannot say it is 100% accurate.
This is not limited to this specific case, but when using tools, please make sure to check for yourself that there are no issues.
So, for various reasons, I decided to use DistroKid.
How to register for DistroKid

So, since I used DistroKid, I will explain the method using that.
Once you sign in with your email address or Google account, you will see the following screen.

It seems you need to pay to use it.
It's a bit hesitant when the pricing plans appear relatively quickly, isn't it? Haha.
By the way, if you go through my code you get a 7% discount, so I think you should take advantage of it. (It seems I get $10, but since you also get 7% off, there's no loss for you.)

I thought I'd try the most popular [Musician Plus] plan for now, so I selected it, but

when I tried to pay, it seems it's forced to be an annual payment.
I thought I would upgrade to the top-tier plan later if needed, but it seems I have to decide from the start.
There is an artist count at the bottom, which is set to 2, but since there's a possibility I'll want to create more, and as a content creator I wanted to verify various things, I also looked at the [Ultimate Plan].

Then, the artist count is set to 5 by default.
This is enough, but it seems you can choose other options as well.

Please note that the price changes depending on the number you select.
Basically, I think most people want to register about 1 to 2 artists, so in that case, I think Musician Plus is fine.
By the way, the lowest plan seems to have many limitations, so I don't really recommend it.
For now, I decided to go with the Ultimate plan.

I was praised after paying.
However, the overall design feels old-fashioned, and for now, I feel a bit uneasy about it. Haha.
The flow after registering with DistroKid

After registering, when I went to the HOME screen, it looked like this.
When I clicked on Upload Music

I was asked for these.
After adding contact information

It seems the preliminary preparations? are finally done.
How to upload music
From this screen again

Select Upload Music.

There is a section to choose distribution destinations, but most were selected by default.
I wasn't sure what to do, so I asked GPT
[Conclusion]
For 90% of artists, leaving everything ON is fineThe annual fee remains the same
There are no stores that charge extra fees. There is no harm in including them.
It is easy to remove them later
In DistroKid's 'Edit Release', uncheck the store and re-distribute to remove it from that store (*there is a time lag of a few days to a few weeks).
It surprisingly helps with country-specific rankings
Example: Instagram Reels -> Spotify trending -> entering overseas playlists is a common case.
The look of the numbers
Since 1 play on minor services in each country counts as 1 stream, earning plays widely and thinly across the world will increase the total stream count.
That's what it said.
I don't really understand it well, but since it seems possible to change it later, I decided to proceed as is without worrying about it.

I'll just enter things here and there as I go.
There are also many items called options, but

They required additional payment, or I didn't really understand what they were, so I skipped them. lol
After finishing various selections and proceeding, I arrived at this screen.

I was prompted for additional payment here too, but I chose to use the version uploaded without mastering.

So, it seems that after this process, the music distribution is finally ready.
So, when will it be released...?
It seems like this is all there is to it.

I was told there is nothing else to do for now. lol
Since it doesn't specifically say how long it will take until distribution, I asked GPT about that too.

So, I'll assume it will take a week and wait patiently.
I've been feeling my way through this for now, but once distribution starts, I will share how it goes. I will also share any other precautions or points of confusion as they arise. Basically, my understanding is that once it's played, it can be monetized, but I will also report on "how many plays it takes to earn a certain amount." I plan to update this note, but I may write a new article depending on the situation. Please wait a little longer.

There has been progress, so I wrote a new note.

Please check the above flow if you'd like.
Well then, see you in another note!
