Engineer in Training 

At Vale Base Metals, engineering graduates will receive guidance and assistance to accelerate their personal development.

The EIT position provides engineering students and recent graduates with acceptable engineering work experience as they pursue their P.Eng licensing.

They will learn about our business and culture, while being exposed to different engineering methods and technical skills they require for their specialized engineering field. EITs will be encouraged to share innovative ideas to transform the business.

What are we looking for?

  • Applicants must have completed or be currently enrolled in an Engineering Undergraduate program.
  • Registered or eligible to register with a professional engineering association within Canada as part of the licensed pathway toward Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • Fast learner with a desire to grow professionally and personally.
  • Experience with engineering design software specific to the engineering field of study.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Geologist in Training 

Vale Base Metals Geologist-in-Training (GIT) position provides world-class training and development in a well-established training program across Vale operations in Canada.

This is a developmental technical position that will allow the right candidate to shape our mining operations as well as grow into a technical leadership role.

What are we looking for?

  • Applicants must have completed a Geology or Geological Engineering degree.
  • Registered or eligible to register with a professional geoscience association in Canada as part of the pathway toward Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) designation.
  • Fast learner with a desire to grow professionally and personally.
  • Committed to working safely in a team or independent setting.
  • Strong problem solving and data analysis skills.

Professional Training Program (PFP) 

The PFP offers solid technical-operational training, and a customized learning experience focused on Vale’s Base Metals production processes. Our operational trainees can develop theoretical and practical skills for the operation and maintenance of large equipment in the mining industry.

In the first months of the program, professional qualifications take place in an educational institution and, subsequently, professional practice in Vale’s Base Metals operation. During the training, experienced mentors oversee the entire process, maintaining our high levels of safety and reliability and contributing to your professional development.

Program Duration: 2 to 3 years
Age: 18 years and above
Education Requirement: Technical, secondary and elementary

New Graduates 

Our programs offer trainees the opportunity to explore, learn and expand skills such as key behaviours for leadership, project management, change management and technical training in the company’s areas of operation. The development paths of the programs are composed of several initiatives such as on-the-job trainings, technical trainings and visit to operations, conversations with executives, mentoring, self-knowledge, early career skills and multidisciplinary project development.

Experienced Professionals

At Vale Base Metals, there’s no shortage of exciting career profiles to explore.

Production

Production workers include our Miners and Operators. Miners are responsible for drilling, blasting, operating a variety of mining machinery and constructing and maintaining drifts, passageways and shafts in our mining operations. Operators monitor, process, control machinery and equipment to manage the processing of mineral ores, molten metals, electrolytic solutions and nickel metal.

Maintenance 

Maintenance work includes millwrights, heavy duty equipment technicians, industrial electricians, machinists, welders and masons. These positions are vital to keeping mining operations running smoothly and safely, often requiring technical certifications and hands-on experience in industrial environments.

Supervisors and Superintendents

These are our frontline leaders. As a supervisor, you may be accountable for planning, scheduling and/or supervising a crew while as a Superintendent, you will lead a team of supervisors.

They have a key leadership role in mentoring teams and ensuring that projects progress on time and on budget. Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences – and that’s what makes us great.

Engineering

Vale Base Metals has many specialist careers in the fields of science and engineering.

Our mining engineers design the development of mines and supervise the extraction of ore whereas civil engineers design and manage projects for the construction or repair of buildings, roads, facilities and services. We also hire chemical, metallurgical, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering professionals to help drive the efficient and profitable operation of our mining sites.

 Geologists and geophysicists carry out exploration and data analysis to learn more about the structure and composition of our ore bodies. They work co-operatively with our mining engineers to plan and do mineral extraction. Chemists/analysts perform analysis of geological materials such as drill cores and ore samples, as well as liquid and solid process samples, to ensure that our products meet or exceed the excellent standards our global customers expect from Vale.

From accountants and business professionals who oversee financial forecasting, capital allocation, acquisitions, and investments, to information technology professionals who plan and direct national or global IT projects, there is no shortage of opportunities for you here at Vale Base Metals.

2- I applied for a job, who can I contact? 

We appreciate the time you have taken to apply. Your application will be reviewed, and you will receive further contact or feedback from a recruiter. We ask that you also monitor your junk/spam as emails sometimes end up there.

3 – Do I have to apply to each opportunity as they come up to be considered by Vale Base Metals?
