My favorite mini diary book made on a whim at 3 AM | I'm bringing it to the Literature Fair

I participated in a ZINE-making workshop held at the Risograph studio "onten," located in Kuramae, and made a small diary book!

Even just the gradient shapes look pretty good...!

The inspiration came from an experience report written by my friend chi(ka), a classmate from the "Tsudoi Editing School" I used to attend. After reading it, I had an intuition that it looked fun, so I invited a friend and signed up.

A 40-day record completed in a rush at 3 AM

For the workshop, I prepared data for an A6-size, 8-page booklet that fits on one side of an A3 sheet of paper.

My friend and I gathered at my house on Saturday, the day before, to start working. ...However, we couldn't get it together, and it took until about 3 AM to finally finish it (my friend finished hers properly around 7 PM and went home).

In the end, I spent time proofreading at a cafe right up until the workshop the next day.

My friend checking if the dates and days of the week in the diary match up

The title is "A 40-Day Diary Until I Log Out of My ChatGPT Diet".

For 40 days, from February 16 to March 27, 2026, I used ChatGPT as a (very relaxed) diet companion.

I sent the numbers from my Bluetooth-connected scale, and reported what I ate and my exercise records. Sometimes I would ask, "What should I eat at the convenience store?" and get feedback.

From those daily logs, I extracted and summarized things related to my diet, as well as memorable events that happened during that period regardless of the diet.

Printing an 8-page diary book and binding it on the spot

At the workshop, I was able to print a total of 10 sheets.

I could only choose one ink color, so I went with "Teal Green," which is a beautiful deep green. For the paper, I chose four colors: yellow, cream, pink, and orange. Even with the same ink, the impression changes quite a bit depending on the paper color.

There are 4 color variations for the paper (yellow, cream, pink, orange)

This book is in a "folded book" format that you fold and cut yourself. Since I finished each one by hand, the folding positions are a little off and there are some clumsy parts, but I feel like that adds to the "charm."

After experiencing Risograph, I want to try two-color printing on warashi (straw paper) next, and my imagination is running wild with the idea that it would be interesting to make many of these "8-page folded books" and eventually combine them into one thick book.

I realized once again that I love the process of touching paper and using my hands to create "things."

I was shown various folded books as examples. I'd love to try using straw paper and two-color printing too.
Test printing on (presumably) copy paper. I chose green ink.
Selecting 10 sheets of paper (colored cardstock) for the final version*
Using the method I was taught, I just kept folding, cutting, and binding the paper by hand!*
Working silently... (Since it's Risograph, I had to be careful not to smudge the ink with my hands)*
Booklets being born one after another.
