[Self-Introduction Profile] Works by Yutaka Yoshioka

About Me

I write under the name Yutaka Yoshioka, exploring the boundaries between loneliness and madness. *We are a husband-and-wife unit.

I write novels, poems, and essays as if scooping up the "inner voices" lurking deep within stories. My main themes are loneliness, hope, memory, forgiveness, love, and sometimes betrayal and flashbacks. Modern ailments.

*I generally do not use AI for the text of my novels. I do use AI for the covers.

・On note, I focus on the feature-length novel "Guardians: I Want to See Your Smile Again," which depicts stories of "rebirth" for people buried in modern society. Incorporating themes of abduction from a happy home, the darkness of the underworld, and the cruelty of family bonds, I depicted a tag team of a police officer, a cracker, and a con artist. It is also currently published on Kindle.
Currently serializing: Feature-length novel "The Hypocritical Savior: Black Messiah" depicts the deception on both the side of justice and the side of the perpetrators. It is a crime psycho-suspense that questions the boundary between saving people and destroying them, set against the backdrop of modern societal distortions such as abuse, family, nursing care, social media, AI, loneliness, and online pile-ons.
Currently serializing: Feature-length novel "Flowing to the Sea: Hoshi Koyoi Chapter" is a horror mystery suspense set in a port town that traces memories, depicting a strange phenomenon where people's faces, names, and even records gradually disappear from around the protagonist, Yu, who has lost her past, occurring on the day of the port town's Tanabata festival. While visiting real-life landscapes such as the sea-fog-covered port town, Mount Hakodate, the slopes, the city tram, the Mashu Maru, and Goryokaku, it explores "what makes a person exist as that person" and "can I remain myself even if I lose my name and memories?"
・In the near-future SF novella "In an Artificial Garden," I depict "what it means to live," "the sensory perception of time," and "how to coexist with unavoidable fate" through the quiet relationship between a genetically modified child who has been given a terminal prognosis and a young girl.
・The novella "The Bandman Who Cannot Die" writes about the distortion between selling out and surviving. I have made an image song for which I wrote the lyrics based on the work available to listen to without monetization.
・"Fight Murder" is a story where the desire to be broken seeps into the honest feeling of wanting to connect with someone.
・In my debut work "Double Exclamation Mark," I capture obsession and madness within silence. I wrote my first work using a narrative trick.
・In "Random Number Seed," I explored the theme that anyone can become a victim or a perpetrator. It is a sequel to "Double Exclamation Mark."
・"Antidote" is an autobiographical-style mystery novel by Yutaka Yoshioka. It is a work that depicts the choice of "accepting a poisoned life, yet still choosing to be here." Themes such as eating disorder, depression, and abuse are included. It is also a work I wrote for my own personal mental growth. (*It is fiction.)

The form of pain varies from work to work, but I hope to quietly touch the "emotions we have pretended not to see" that are buried somewhere in the reader's heart. While respecting freedom of expression, I strive to create works that stay close to the hearts of those who read them.

I am not good with spiritualism. I like philosophy. I also write articles and do programming. I upload blueprints for original apps and OSs to GitHub as a hobby.

I am someone who studies the latest IT crime, criminal psychology, and mental care, and I am a former web designer/coder, instructor, security-related professional, and welfare worker. Currently, I am a freelancer making a living through writing, supervision work, design creation, etc. (I have listed the backgrounds of both my spouse and myself).

Hello, my name is Yutaka Yoshioka. I’m an amateur novelist from Japan. My writing explores the complexity of human psychology, emotional distance, and the quiet loneliness that hides in everyday life. I write not to teach or preach, but simply to reach those who might feel the same kind of silence inside. If you’ve ever felt like you’re drifting in the dark, I hope my stories can keep you company, even just a little. I try to respect freedom of expression while creating stories that gently stay close to the hearts of those who read them. Thank you for reading. It means more than you think.

The Difference Between Fully Original Works and AI-Collaborative Works - My Thoughts on AI

*While long-form novels are basically conceived, written, and proofread by me, some essays, short stories, articles, and lyrics are collaborative works with AI.

I use AI for brainstorming, proofreading, and some metaphorical expressions. (There are also essays, short stories, articles, and lyrics that do not use AI.) Some works involve having AI learn my writing style, refining and examining ideas generated by both me and the AI, merging the works written by me and the AI, and finally having me complete them and ask the AI to proofread. I am currently experimenting with AI usage. Furthermore, I am a person who constantly learns metaphorical expressions from AI and strives to improve myself. I also use AI daily for learning, such as for English and other languages, as well as psychology.

However, since I basically feel intense self-loathing and a sense of defeat when uploading works that use AI to the internet, for the sake of my pride, I plan to continue creating long-form novels patiently without using AI. Also, cover illustrations and icons are illustrations that I have refined by having AI process my hand-drawn illustrations. I occasionally upload my illustrations (hand-drawn drafts) to Instagram.

List of Works

My favorite representative work, the full-length novel "Guardians" (Completely original, no AI used; only the cover uses AI)

――The setting shifts from Japan to China. A crime suspense mystery featuring an unlikely trio: a police officer, a hacker, and a con artist.
Hikaru Koyanagi, a public security investigator, continues to search for his younger brother who was kidnapped in childhood. It is discovered that a "grown-up face" of his brother, reconstructed using AI technology, bears a striking resemblance to a photo found on a criminal's computer. The photo points to China. Hikaru infiltrates China alone and meets Long, a hacker operating on the dark web. Long is a man involved in a dangerous scheme to clear his mentor John's name of a false accusation. Carrying their own agendas and pasts, Hikaru closes in on the core of a cross-border criminal network. The whereabouts of his brother, a military incident, and darkness spanning nations. As the paths of the public security officer, the hacker, and the con artist cross, the lost bond between brothers and the hidden truth gradually emerge――.

Debut full-length novel "Double Exclamation Mark" (Completely original, no AI used; only the cover uses AI)

Yuri Takakura, who works diligently as an engineer in Sapporo, has a same-sex partner named Soya Kasagi. One day, Takakura is suspected of cheating by his partner, Kasagi, who believes Takakura is meeting with a woman he doesn't know. Later, Takakura also becomes a police suspect in a series of female kidnapping and murder cases. Although Takakura has an alibi, his emotionally unstable side gradually begins to reveal itself... A psycho-suspense mystery where personalities intersect in a double layer!!

Autobiographical full-length novel "Antidote" (Completely original, no AI used; only the cover uses AI)

—My Accusation Document. I am looking for someone.—
Yuki Takaoka, who works as a web designer, has a secret. It is that Takaoka burned down his family home in the past and subsequently lived the life of a male prostitute. He had multiple partners and lived a chaotic life, but the cause lay in Takaoka's past. Due to abuse, Takaoka suffered from cibophobia and was unable to eat with others. He also had symptoms of social anxiety disorder, which made him fearful of interacting with others. Does Takaoka, who burned down his family home to take revenge on the family that abused him, have a future? An autobiographical dark human drama depicting the life of a man where the past and future intersect.

Serialized Novel: "The Hypocritical Savior: Black Messiah" (Cover uses AI)

—A crime psycho-suspense where the line between good and evil blurs—
In this world, there are more people who live without being judged even after committing crimes. Ryunosuke Saeki, an engineer and CG creator, operated in secret as a mysterious figure calling himself a "Savior." Saeki says, "I don't 'help with accusations.' Even if I did, they would just make excuses. I only help you. I only help you with the 'destruction of hypocrisy,' helping you decide how to 'break' them or how to 'kill' them." Eventually, whispers of Saeki's activities began to circulate in the media, calling him the "Black Messiah who destroys hypocrites."

Serialized Novel: "Flowing into the Sea: Star Tonight Chapter" (Cover uses AI)

—Vanishing into the shadows of the world, forgotten by those who lost their names. "...Who am I?"—
A small, old, two-story apartment on the outskirts of Hakodate. "I," Yu, who lives there quietly, has lost his past and now lives a quiet, solitary life while working a mundane cleaning job. However, mysterious incidents occur one after another in the vicinity. People disappear, "leaving only their forms behind." A mysterious woman named "Kanon" appears, asking, "Are you really 'Yu'?" Gradually, Yu recalls the silhouette of a mysterious woman in a dress. When he finally meets her, he notices that her face is identical to his own. Furthermore, all the people who disappeared from the town were individuals who had been involved with Yu... A horror mystery suspense story about tracing memories that takes place on Tanabata in a port town.

Novella: "The Closed Garden" (Cover uses AI)

In the deepest part of the second floor of the library, at a reading seat where almost no one comes, there was a woman who spent her time quietly every Thursday from morning until closing. Asada, a library staff member, becomes gradually attracted to her, triggered by the bruises on her cheeks and her words, "I don't want to be at home," while restraining himself from crossing the boundary between staff and patron. Because he is in a position where he could know her name and address if he wanted to, he chooses to pretend he doesn't know. A woman seeking a place where no one will yell at her. The distance between two lonely people begins to sway slowly and precariously in a quiet corner of the library. A romantic novella.

Novella: "Fight Murder" (A completely original work fed into AI and softened by AI; cover uses AI)

A man who wants to be killed and a woman who wants to kill. This is a psycho-thriller where the delusions of a person with abnormal sexual preferences erode reality, and daily life is rewritten into a "stage for torture"... The protagonist's "desire to die," confessed via video streaming. The figure of a torturer appearing in dreams. And when he meets his stepsister for the first time, she has the "same face" as his delusion... The story accelerates.

Novella: "In the Artificial Garden" (Cover and image song use AI)

"I won't live to be twenty"... Kane, a genetically modified boy who was given this prognosis, spends his time at a high school in Hakodate observing "normal life." Deep in his right ear, an AI he created himself, modeled after his late best friend Shane, occasionally intrudes into Kane's thoughts. Before Kane, who was cold and believed that love was unnecessary and that life should be closed rationally, appears a classmate, Funa-chan. Conversations, going out, and unpredictable emotions gradually change the meaning of his "remaining life." A near-future sci-fi romance novella.

Novella: "The Bandman Who Can't Die" (Cover and image song use AI)

A bandman who never sold records suddenly becomes popular one day. Dark lyrics. Things inside him. Words he just spat out without intending to show anyone. When he was thanked for those words connecting someone's life, he realized that he had unknowingly ended up on the "giving side." "From now on, I want you to write bright lyrics. Positive songs are better." As he lined up words as requested, and as the applause and view counts increased, the words that should have been inside him gradually stopped coming out. "The Bandman Who Can't Die"... This is a story about a person who could only survive by continuing to use words. Behind the stage lights, in a place where no one sees him, the pages of his notebook grow today as well... Who was it that "couldn't die"?

Short Story: "Broker: This Love Is Yours Alone" (Cover uses AI)

A perverse suspense story where the boundary between love and obsession quietly breaks down. Every morning, a man visits the room of his beloved, Lisa. But one morning, what he finds is her changed form and another man who looks just like him. Who is the one who loves? Who is the one who is crazy? Who am I? Obsession, possessiveness, and imaginary love intertwine, and eventually, the story takes an unexpected and bizarre turn. A dangerous and bewitching short story where twisted love chains together.

Short Story: "How wonderful day" (Cover uses AI)

Yuya, a young man who has lived without knowing the warmth of a family, finally touches upon a "peaceful daily life" while being comforted by his rabbit, Chataro. But behind that happiness, memories of abuse, divorce, the severance of parent-child ties, and unceasing self-denial were quietly eroding his heart. A gentle breakfast, fishing, the dining table, casual conversation... Perhaps ordinary happiness was too dazzling for him. A quiet and poignant story depicting the wishes of a man who sought a warm home and the conclusion of that wish.

Short Story: "I Picked Up a Puppy" (Cover uses AI) (Bad end version included in the short story collection)

A puppy picked up on a rainy country road gradually changes the life of a man who has lived in loneliness. The death of his parents, a past spent moving between relatives, and days where he could not open his heart to anyone. The small life that appeared before him reminded him of lost warmth and the feeling of loving someone again. A story of loss and salvation that quietly depicts the meeting, the time spent living together, aging, and parting. While it is a story about picking up a dog, it is also a story about a person starting life over. The bad end version is included in the short story collection.

First Short Story: "Parent-Child Baton" (Cover uses AI)

A man writes a novel relying on the idea notebook left behind by his mother. What had been ingrained in him since childhood was less like love and more like an obsession. Memories of a mother possessed by creation, the agony of being unable to write, and a daily life falling apart. Eventually, the 'inheritance between parent and child' transforms from a legacy of talent or dreams into the passing down of madness itself. A gloomy and unsettling psycho-suspense where creation and control, love-hate and murderous intent, become intertwined.
