About Me

I write under the name Yutaka Yoshioka, exploring the boundaries between loneliness and madness. *We are a husband-and-wife unit.

I write novels, poems, and essays as if scooping up the "inner voices" lurking deep within stories. My main themes are loneliness, hope, memory, forgiveness, love, and sometimes betrayal and flashbacks. Modern ailments.

*I generally do not use AI for the text of my novels. I do use AI for the covers.

・On note, I focus on the feature-length novel "Guardians: I Want to See Your Smile Again," which depicts stories of "rebirth" for people buried in modern society. Incorporating themes of abduction from a happy home, the darkness of the underworld, and the cruelty of family bonds, I depicted a tag team of a police officer, a cracker, and a con artist. It is also currently published on Kindle.
・Currently serializing: Feature-length novel "The Hypocritical Savior: Black Messiah" depicts the deception on both the side of justice and the side of the perpetrators. It is a crime psycho-suspense that questions the boundary between saving people and destroying them, set against the backdrop of modern societal distortions such as abuse, family, nursing care, social media, AI, loneliness, and online pile-ons.
・Currently serializing: Feature-length novel "Flowing to the Sea: Hoshi Koyoi Chapter" is a horror mystery suspense set in a port town that traces memories, depicting a strange phenomenon where people's faces, names, and even records gradually disappear from around the protagonist, Yu, who has lost her past, occurring on the day of the port town's Tanabata festival. While visiting real-life landscapes such as the sea-fog-covered port town, Mount Hakodate, the slopes, the city tram, the Mashu Maru, and Goryokaku, it explores "what makes a person exist as that person" and "can I remain myself even if I lose my name and memories?"
・In the near-future SF novella "In an Artificial Garden," I depict "what it means to live," "the sensory perception of time," and "how to coexist with unavoidable fate" through the quiet relationship between a genetically modified child who has been given a terminal prognosis and a young girl.
・The novella "The Bandman Who Cannot Die" writes about the distortion between selling out and surviving. I have made an image song for which I wrote the lyrics based on the work available to listen to without monetization.
・"Fight Murder" is a story where the desire to be broken seeps into the honest feeling of wanting to connect with someone.
・In my debut work "Double Exclamation Mark," I capture obsession and madness within silence. I wrote my first work using a narrative trick.
・In "Random Number Seed," I explored the theme that anyone can become a victim or a perpetrator. It is a sequel to "Double Exclamation Mark."
・"Antidote" is an autobiographical-style mystery novel by Yutaka Yoshioka. It is a work that depicts the choice of "accepting a poisoned life, yet still choosing to be here." Themes such as eating disorder, depression, and abuse are included. It is also a work I wrote for my own personal mental growth. (*It is fiction.)

The form of pain varies from work to work, but I hope to quietly touch the "emotions we have pretended not to see" that are buried somewhere in the reader's heart. While respecting freedom of expression, I strive to create works that stay close to the hearts of those who read them.

I am not good with spiritualism. I like philosophy. I also write articles and do programming. I upload blueprints for original apps and OSs to GitHub as a hobby.

I am someone who studies the latest IT crime, criminal psychology, and mental care, and I am a former web designer/coder, instructor, security-related professional, and welfare worker. Currently, I am a freelancer making a living through writing, supervision work, design creation, etc. (I have listed the backgrounds of both my spouse and myself).

The Difference Between Fully Original Works and AI-Collaborative Works - My Thoughts on AI

*While long-form novels are basically conceived, written, and proofread by me, some essays, short stories, articles, and lyrics are collaborative works with AI.

I use AI for brainstorming, proofreading, and some metaphorical expressions. (There are also essays, short stories, articles, and lyrics that do not use AI.) Some works involve having AI learn my writing style, refining and examining ideas generated by both me and the AI, merging the works written by me and the AI, and finally having me complete them and ask the AI to proofread. I am currently experimenting with AI usage. Furthermore, I am a person who constantly learns metaphorical expressions from AI and strives to improve myself. I also use AI daily for learning, such as for English and other languages, as well as psychology.

However, since I basically feel intense self-loathing and a sense of defeat when uploading works that use AI to the internet, for the sake of my pride, I plan to continue creating long-form novels patiently without using AI. Also, cover illustrations and icons are illustrations that I have refined by having AI process my hand-drawn illustrations. I occasionally upload my illustrations (hand-drawn drafts) to Instagram.
