[Read in 3 minutes!] If you could only drive one car in your lifetime
—A story about how I, who have treated my body carelessly, rethought the importance of rest
It's Yohaku🌟
You can only drive one car in your lifetime.
If you were told that, what would you do?
“I’d choose a cool sports car…”
“I’d go with a Porsche…”
I’m not trying to talk about cars here. (lol)
I’m sure most people would choose very carefully.
Is the fuel efficiency good?
Will it last a long time?
Can I use it while repairing it?
Does it suit me?
We think about these things, don't we...
No, that's not it.
I told you, it’s not about cars. (lol)
This time,
We only get one body in our lifetime.
Today, I’m going to write about this!
Writer of this article: Yohaku-chan
I share information about working while dealing with the waves of anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder. I write articles related to mental health and articles from the perspective of someone actually living with these conditions.
Something more important than a car you only get one of in a lifetime
Warren Buffett, a world-famous investor,
is said to have told young people, “If you could only have one car in your lifetime…”
If you could only have one car,
you would surely take great care of it.
You wouldn't drive it recklessly.
You wouldn't ignore even the slightest malfunction.
You would have it inspected regularly.
So, how about your own body?
Even though you're tired, are you ignoring it?
Even if you have days where you can't sleep, are you pushing through on sheer willpower?
A car can be replaced if the worst happens.
However, your body cannot be replaced.
You only realize the weight of health after you've lost it.
There is nothing more valuable than health.
I have heard those words before.
In the past, I thought that was a bit of an exaggeration.
You should work as long as you can.
Even if it's a bit tough, you'll manage somehow.
You only need to rest once you've reached your limit.
There was a time when I thought that way.
But now, I can't think that way anymore.
I suffered from bipolar disorder and anxiety disorder.
That is precisely why I feel this so strongly.
Your mind and body are more honest than you think.
For every bit you push yourself too hard, there will be a reaction later.
For every bit you pretend to be okay, there will come a time when you have to stop.
Resting does not mean stopping your life.
When they hear the word 'rest,' some people feel guilty.
'I should be able to do more.'
'I might be a burden to those around me.'
'If I rest, I'll fall behind.'
Those words might pop into your head.
But, it is okay to rest!
Because resting is the time for maintenance to keep your body running for a long time.
In terms of a car, it's time for an inspection.
Let the engine cool down,
and prepare for the next drive.
I want you to let your body rest a little.

If you could only drive one car in your lifetime,
I'm sure everyone would treat it with great care.
If it gets a scratch, you worry.
If it makes a strange noise, you get it checked.
You maintain it so it can run for a long time.
If that's the case, you should be able to treat your body the same way.
Your body is the place where you live.
Your heart and your daily life are all riding on it.
So please, do not make pushing yourself the norm.
Like I do. (Haha)
It is okay if you cannot be perfectly healthy.
It is okay if you cannot find an answer right away.
First, please let yourself rest just a little bit today.
You are allowed to take care of your body.
I write this as a reminder to myself.
That is not running away.
It is a quiet form of maintenance to keep on living.

Up to this point, I have written about letting your own body rest.
Now that we understand the importance of resting the body this much, it is meaningless if we cannot put it into action.
Therefore, I will be releasing the rest methods I have thought through based on reading over 10 books on how to rest and my own personal experiences on Thursday, May 14th at 9:00 PM.
Also, this series on how to rest will not end with just one installment.
(I am not sure how many there will be yet, but there will be at least three. )
So that you do not follow the same path of mental illness as I did.
If you are already suffering from a mental illness, so that it does not get any worse.
Please look forward to the post on May 14th!
