From someone who doesn't know 'Father's Day'.
It seems 'Father's Day' is coming up soon.
What do you all do for Father's Day every year?
I always feel a bit dazed around this time of year.
Actually, I have never done anything for Father's Day.
That is because I don't have a father.
My parents divorced before I was old enough to remember, and I was taken in by my mother.
Even so, I think he paid child support and came to see me until I was about to enter elementary school.
He would spend time with me, especially on my birthdays.
But one day, he disappeared and we lost contact. The following year on my birthday, when I came home from school, there was an envelope addressed to me in the mailbox. When I opened it, there was money inside.
When I told my mother, she looked conflicted, but in the end, she told me, 'It's okay to keep it.'
It might be a bit of a sad story.
But for me, I have never thought, 'How sad' or 'I wish I had memories of Father's Day too.'
Since I don't have many memories of my father, it's natural for him not to be there, and it's hard to miss something that wasn't there to begin with, I suppose.
In that respect, I'm quite detached, and to be honest, I don't think anything of it.
I even think that not being able to celebrate Father's Day is 'maybe cost-effective since there's no expense for buying presents.'
Is that a bit too mercenary?
But I actually think it's a good thing to be this detached.
I don't know the details of what kind of person my father was, but he was a father who left behind debt and disappeared, leaving a mother and child behind... I feel it was for the best that my mother divorced him early, as I have no bad memories of him.
That is my father to me.
How about you all?
Behind the warm celebrations of Father's Day, I think there are others who, like me, grew up without a father in the family.
Unlike me, there may be some who feel lonely because of that.
Even if a father was present in the home, there are surely those who carry bitter feelings.
There are also, surely, those who had a father, but then lost him.
If that is the case, there may be some who feel a bit uncomfortable with the context of a 'warm and wonderful Father's Day'.
Surely, you are not alone.
Of course, there must be those who have a good relationship with their father and are thinking, 'What should I give him this year?'
For those who are enjoying it in that way, please continue to have a happy Father's Day just as you are.
I, who am not like that, also think, 'It has nothing to do with me, but it's a good thing that there are people who are enjoying it.' Because I prefer a world with less pain and more people feeling happy.
Besides, there are good things about not having a father.
I personally feel like I am learning 'this is what a father is' by watching the many 'fathers' here on note. Somehow, learning things like that anew is fun.
When I wrote about my father on note before, I received a comment saying,'You might find it hard to believe, but even if they are apart, and no matter how many years pass, a father always thinks of his children.'.
I know from watching stories and such that this is generally the case.
There are also those who feel 'that is only natural'.
But I had never even imagined that 'my own father' might think that way, so it was a real eye-opener.
I see, so fathers do think of their children... A new discovery.
Thinking about it that way, a somewhat complicated feeling wells up regarding my father.
But, there is nothing I can do about it even if I say such things.
Since I have no one to celebrate with, I think I will celebrate the fathers who are doing their best on note.
To the fathers who are always doing their best.
Working hard for your children, doing housework, and playing with them.
Wonderful fathers who also accompany them on outings.
Thank you for all your hard work, always.
Your children must love you very much, too.
There may be some who can no longer hear them say it out loud.
Even so, I am sure that warmth is still there, deep in your children's hearts.
The feelings you poured into them, even if invisible, do not simply disappear.
Because I believe they connect to your children's present and future, and continue on.
To the fathers who always work until they are exhausted, I hope you can rest well this Father's Day.
Thank you.
