Our son (our first child) was born in the autumn of 2025.
I am posting records of raising our baby with a slight delay.
I will introduce a "near-miss" incident that occurred during the "transition period" when we finished our stay at my parents' home at about one month old and our "life of three" at home began in earnest.near-missincident.
Diaper consumption
At this time (1 month old), diaper consumption was about:
- Pee: 13-15 times
- Poop: 1-2 times
which meant we were usingover 15 diapers a day.
The frequency of urination was quite high, and on top of that,he would scream "Gyaaaa! Aaaaaa!!" every time he peedcontinuously.
By the way, his record for the most times peeing in a day was 21.

After that, a poop trouble (to be posted separately) occurred, and during that time, the "peeing screams" naturally subsided.
With a consumption speed where a 64-count pack of diapers would run out in just 4 days, I was placing delivery orders so that we would never run out, but also not buy too many and have them go to waste due to size changes.
The diapers we use at home are "GOON", which were also used at the maternity clinic, and are a product of Daio Paper, the same company that makes "Elleair" toilet paper.
Wait? The diaper stock is...
One night, when I tried to refill the diaper stocker in the living room, the pack had just run out.
When I went to the storage area to get the next pack...
Zero left!!!
The next delivery was scheduled for the following morning, and we had to survive the night withonly 8 left.
Calculating it out, 8 diapers would last about9 to 10 hours, which felt a bit tight.
Newborn diapers are not available in local stores
"It's tight, but I'm sure we can manage..."
Before Mom could finish saying that,
Dad ran out into the night.
It was 21:50 at the time.
I figured I could dash into the drugstore just before closing.
1. Drugstore
Well, I arrived in front of the drugstore.
The closing time was 21:00 /^o^\ Out of luck!
2. Mid-sized supermarket
The mid-sized supermarket, which had groceries and daily necessities on the first floor and clothing and tenants on the second, was still open, but they only sold sizes M and L.
3. Convenience store
Next, I went to the green, white, and blue convenience store...
Unfortunately, they didn't have any baby diapers.
4. Vending machine in front of the children's center
Even before the baby was born,
"Oh, they sell them at this vending machine!"
I had checked it out, and it's set up so you can buy size M and L diapers and baby wipes 24 hours a day.
But they don't sell newborn sizes.
Later: Small supermarket
At the small supermarket in the residential area, they mainly stocked items for the elderly, and for babies, they only had sizes M, L, and XL.
...So,
newborn diapers are surprisingly hard to find in local shops, aren't they?
If I had realized at least two hours earlier, I could have gone to a larger drugstore...
After that, my husband came home saying, "It was a nice change of pace to go out at night for the first time in a while!"
Summary
This was a story about how I suddenly went out to town to buy newborn diapers at night when we were almost out, only to find they weren't sold anywhere...
Diapers cost about 1,600 yen per pack, but...
The fear of spending time worrying that "we might run out of diapers" cannot be saved by 1,600 yen, so
it's okay to have leftovers!I want to keep plenty on hand with that mindset...
