Why can't you hit a stationary ball? The magic that turns the difficulty of golf into fun
A message of empathy for you, as you sigh at the driving range
At the driving range after work.
Facing a basket full of white balls,
have you ever stood still,
wondering, "Why can't I hit these well?"
It's just hitting a stationary ball,
and yet, even though I was in such good form yesterday,
today it's nothing but whiffs and grounders.
Hearing the crisp, satisfying "crack!" from the next stall,
on a night where you feel a bittersweet, indescribable sense of being left behind.
"No one told me golf was this difficult..."
Muttering that in your heart, you feel like putting your clubs away.
I understand that frustrating feeling all too well.
That frustration is proof that you have started to love golf
First, I want to tell you not to blame yourself or think you "lack talent."
The reason golf is so difficult and makes you feel like giving up is
simply becauseyou are engaging with golf so sincerelythat it hurts.
You feel frustrated because you have the passion to get better.
You feel sad because you are starting to love this sport.
If you didn't expect anything, your emotions wouldn't be stirred like this.
That delicate movement of your heart is proof that you are a true golfer.
The moment the "magic is broken" at the lesson site
In my lessons,
I have seen many people whose swings get smaller as they fear mistakes,
the more they wish to "hit it well."
Actually, in lessons, I tell students to avoid
"swinging smaller because you want to make contact" more than "mishits."
It's okay to make mistakes at first.
Without obsessing over making contact, repeat the process of "swinging" with the correct motion.
Then, in an instant, a single ball caught on the sweet spot
will draw a parabola and stretch into the sky.
"That felt good...!"
The expression on the customer's face at that moment shines like a child's.
Once you can "swing through" instead of just "hitting,"
your successful experiences will naturally increase.
Precisely because it is difficult, that one shot becomes a treasure for a lifetime.
From "I have to succeed" to "Let's experiment"
Why don't you try changing your perspective just a little here?
Discard the pressure of needing a perfect score of 100 by "having to hit it straight," and
redefine your stance for now as "let's try a little experiment."
Golf is a sport of mistakes.
Even professionals cannot hit all 18 holes perfectly.
Also, the experience of a mishit that you currently think of as a "mistake"
actually comes in handy on the course in situations where you "intentionally hit that ball to recover."
There is no such thing as a wasted experience.
It is also important to make plenty of mistakes and gain experience.
That "mental space" becomes the magic that moves the club that had been stuck.
Today's words: Knowing the true charm behind the difficulty
There is a message I most want to deliver to you today.
“Because it is difficult, it is worth doing”
If golf were easy from the start and anyone could get a perfect score,
the excitement of that one shot would not remain in your heart so deeply.
Days when things don't go well are proof that you are currently
taking on the challenge of overcoming a major wall.
The difficulty is not rejecting you, but
inviting you to the greatest sense of accomplishment.
Difficulty is the flip side of your potential.
The day you can fully savor that sense of fulfillment is just around the corner.
Doable in 3 seconds! How to turn on your "challenge switch"
Please try just this in your next practice or round.
Once you set the ball, take a deep breath for 3 seconds and whisper in your heart:
“Alright, I'm going to take on the challenge now”
Instead of "I absolutely have to hit it,"
turn on the switch by saying, "I'll try swinging now."
This is not magic to eliminate mistakes.
It is a ritual to reset your body, which has become tense and unable to swing.
In just 3 seconds, your mental anxiety will ease,
and your next swing will change into a natural one.
Playing with all your might right now.
That is the biggest secret to enjoying golf.
For a new tomorrow where you will want to grip the club again
No matter how your shot turns out,
the moment you feel like you are "taking on a challenge" today,
is an important step in your improvement.
It is okay if you don't hit it well.
That challenge itself will eventually bring you the perfect feel.
Thinking, "Alright, let's take on the challenge again today,"
I look forward to seeing you grip the club.
Because it is difficult, your own unique golf shines,
and I am rooting for you with all my heart as you grip the club with excitement.⛳✨
