Dodger Stadium Food & Drink Policy: A Complete Guide (With Personal Experience)
—My Bento Box Style for Watching Shohei Ohtani Pitch—
Introduction: The "Outside Food Policy" You Might Not Know
It is well-known that alcohol is prohibited at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, but in fact, you are allowed to bring in non-alcoholic beverages in plastic bottles and light snacks like bento boxes or sandwiches..
However, the rules can be a bit confusing, so first-time visitors should be careful.
Here, based on my actual experience watching a game on the day Shohei Ohtani pitched, I will introduce tips for bringing in food and some recommended items.

What You Can and Cannot Bring
✅ Allowed
Plastic bottled beverages (non-alcoholic)
→ Water, tea, soft drinks, etc., up to about 500ml
→ Must be unopenedBento boxes, sandwiches, and snacks
→ Light snacks without strong odors are okay
→ Onigiri, sandwiches, and snack foods are safe bets
❌ Not Allowed
Alcoholic beverages
Cans, glass bottles, insulated bottles, etc.
Bags with store logos or opaque bags (paper bags from places like Whole Foods are also not allowed)
Bag Size and Rules (Clear Bag Policy)
Since 2023, Dodger Stadium has implemented the MLB-wide "Clear Bag Policy."
To ensure smooth security checks at the entrance, there are strict restrictions on bag material and size.
✅ Allowed Bags
Material: Only clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC
Size limit: Within 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches (approx. 30cm x 15cm x 30cm)
Acceptable alternatives:
- Clear bags like Ziploc bags
up to 1 gallon (approx. 3.8L) - Clear tote bags where the contents are fully visible
❌ Prohibited Bags
Opaque tote bags, backpacks, and handbags
Paper bags or store bags (where the contents are not visible)
Oversized bags (even if they are transparent, they are not allowed)
💡 Pro-tip
Organizing your belongings so they are clearly visible will make the inspection go smoothly.
It is safer to pack food in small Ziploc bags.
Carrying snacks by hand is also perfectly fine.
As long as you follow these rules, you can bring in snacks bought at places like Whole Foods without any issues.
Since most cases of being stopped at the security gate are due to "opaque bags" or "oversized bags," I recommend having one transparent bag.
If you couldn't prepare a transparent bag, there are trash cans in front of the security gate where you can discard store bags and switch to carrying items by hand.

My spectator style: Bento boxes from Whole Foods
On the day Shohei Ohtani was pitching, I brought Whole Foods Market tuna avocado roll sushi and a Shohei Ohtani-designed "Oi Ocha" bottle.
Every Whole Foods location in Los Angeles has high quality and flavors that suit Japanese tastes, so I recommend them.
There are hot dogs, nachos, tacos, etc., inside the stadium, but honestly, they are all very American and a bit heavy....
In my case, after trying them a few times, I decided I had enough, and since then, I've been a bring-your-own person.
Is a "Japanese-style bento" the right choice for cost performance?
In Los Angeles, neither dining out nor supermarket deli food is particularly cheap.
If you want to keep costs down, I think it's best to buy bread or sandwiches at a shop, or buy a bento at Nijiya Market, a Japanese supermarket in Little Tokyo, downtown, before you go.
Drinks are overwhelmingly cheaper at supermarkets outside than at the stadium, so I recommend buying them in advance.
At the stadium, although the size is large, a single soda costs over 1,500 yen.
Summary: Tips for enjoying a Dodgers game comfortably
Carry-in is OK if it's non-alcoholic drinks + light snacks + transparent bag
Keeping it in the store's bag is a no-go; make sure to transfer it to a transparent bag!
Stadium food is heavy & expensive → Bring your own preferred light snacks
It's best to procure them in advance at Whole Foods or Nijiya Market
Watching a game is not just about the match itself; how you choose to enjoy it is also one of the highlights.
While following the rules, find your own unique 'stadium gourmet style' and have the best day at Dodger Stadium.
