#7 "What is Flow?"
Good morning♪
It's time for our happiness research session after a long while😊
Everyone, happiness researchers!
well-being✨
Come on!
Let's have fun learning again today♪
Last time, we learned about "PERMA, the 5 conditions for happiness"
Do you remember "PERMA"✨?
Do you remember?
"PERMA" are the components of well-being
(P) Positive emotion
(E) Engagement (Flow)
(R) Relationships
(M) Meaning
(A) Accomplishment
that's right~😊
Today's theme
⭐️"What is Flow?"
is!
"Flow" is
the ( E ) Engagement part
of "PERMA," one of the concepts that make up positive psychology!
⭐️What is Flow
It is a concept proposed by American psychologist
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi!
Engaging in an activity✨
Flow refers to a mental state in which a person is
completely immersed and energetically focused on what they are doing at the time, characterized by being fully absorbed, and in which the process is an activity that is successful in its vitality.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_(psychology)
⭐️A mental state of being completely immersed and focused
Because you are so focused,
your performance improves,
and you may feel like time is moving slowly,
or conversely, that it is moving quickly.
That kind of
special time of concentration✨
*Flowis also sometimes called thezonein sports!
While you are absorbed,
thoughts and emotions do not exist and you are in a state of nothingness,
and before you know it, time has flown by!😳
That is what this time is!
Everyone, you have experienced this before, haven't you?✨
*I touch on "mental time" a little in other articles
"Fascinated by a 6th-grade Japanese textbook!"
"The comfort of time flowing in a way that matches a relaxed and free time"
A flow state is, much like being moved, a moment of happiness,
a short-lived happiness, but
while in flow,
you are in a state where you cannot
worry or think about unpleasant things, so
after a period of being so focused that you lose track of time,
you feel very fulfilled.✨
⭐️Flow is,
a highly positive and productive state!
indeed!
Activities in a flow state are,
It is an activity that helps you become better than you are now,
and enhances your well-being! 😊
So,
when can you enter a state of flow?
For that,
⭐️ the balance between skill level and challenge level
is important.✨
This diagram is Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's flow model!
I included it because it's easy to understand!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_(psychology)

The way the balance works and the state of mind
are very easy to understand, aren't they!
○ Skill Level (Horizontal Axis)
High means your ability increases (you can complete it)
Low means your ability decreases (you cannot do it)
Things that do not match your ability result in
worry/anxiety, or apathy/boredom,
and you will not enter the special state of concentration called "Flow"!
○ Challenge Level (Vertical Axis)
Difficulty of the task
If high, it is a difficulttask; if low, it is an easy task
If it is too easy, it leads to apathy or boredom
If it is too difficult, it leads to worry, anxiety, or stress, and
you cannot enter "Flow"!
What is the position to enter "flow"?
You need a balance of two things!
⭐️ Compared to your own abilities,
it's a little difficult, but you can finish it!
In this case, you can enter "flow"!✨
Small steps✨
are also set at this position, aren't they!😊
If the task is slightly above your ability,
you will feel like taking on the challenge and be able to focus,
making it easier to enter a flow state!
To achieve that,
it is also important that your mental energy is stored up!
Until then,
relax by doing things you can do easily
Once your mind is at ease and your energy has built up,
let's incorporate flow activities✨
Flow activities are,
activities that, when engaged in,
make you feel
positive emotions!
They are well-being activities✨
When you are tired,
it is important to relax and avoid putting a burden on yourself, but
for well-being, resilience is also an important strength!
If you know how to increase your mental strength,
you can build up your power✨😊
Please, give it a try💕
[Summary]
⭐️ Flow is a special time of concentration!
⭐️ Let's engage in activities that put us in a flow state!
⭐️ Value the balance between ability and challenge!
⭐️ Choose tasks that are slightly difficult but achievable!
Next time, #8 "Is concentration mindfulness?!"
Stay tuned~✨
