Synopsis of Episode 4 (this episode)
Warrior Karina, caught in a teleportation magic circle, wakes up in an unfamiliar grassland. The guide she meets there, Keel, has a perverted side but is well-versed in the affairs of the region. The true goal of Karina's party is to obtain the "Star Fragment," which has the power to cure incurable diseases. People suffering from illness, including Erika's younger sister, are waiting back home. In the northern ruins, they rescue the swordsman Leon, who had been captured by a Wolfman. As a token of friendship, they eat nuts, building a relationship of trust with the monsters. On the eastern lakeshore, they discover the priestess Erika, who was trapped in the darkness of her heart. With the advice of Sylvia, the leader of the mermaid tribe, and the calls of Karina and Leon, Erika is freed from the curse. The three are finally reunited. However, even in this moving scene, Keel's frivolous attitude remains unchanged, leading to Karina's iron-fisted punishment. The group then heads to the southern cave where the Star Fragment is said to sleep. In the darkness, Keel once again "accidentally" touches Erika, and ends up being flanked by Karina and Leon. Deep in the cave, they discover a pale glowing magic circle and Dragan, a Dragonewt guarding it. The truth revealed by him is that the three are the "Chosen Ones," led to this land by an ancient prophecy. "When the three souls overcome the trials, the Star Fragment will awaken and bring light to the world." To obtain the Star Fragment, they must overcome three trials. The first trial is "Courage"—to fight one's own shadow. The second trial is "Wisdom." The third trial is "Bond." Leon passes through the first door to face the trial alone. The sound of clashing swords echoes from beyond the door. Karina and Erika watch the door with bated breath, praying for their companion's safety. Will Leon be able to overcome his own shadow? And the remaining two trials await the three... The adventure of the three, guided by fate, finally approaches its core.
"This is the entrance to the cave... The darkness is deep..."
Keel says.
"It's okay, I'm used to the darkness."
Leon replies.
"I'm a little scared... Karina, stay close..."
Erika approaches Karina. Karina replies.
"It's okay, Erika, don't worry..."
"It's dark..." Just as Leon said that,
"Kyaaa!"
Erika screams.
"What's wrong?"
Karina asked, and just then!
"Sorry, sorry, my body bumped into you..."
Keel touched Erika's body. Or rather than touched...
"You really are a pervert."
Karina hits him on the head with the hilt of her dagger in the darkness.
"Gyaaaaa! It hurts!"
Keel screams.
"You pervert! Erika, are you okay?"
Leon calls out, worried about Erika.
"No, I just bumped into him a little... Don't be so rough."
"You have to be strict with perverts."
Leon and Karina decided to flank Keel.
Erika walks behind Keel, as if he is being dragged along half-forcibly.
By the way, Keel seems a little happy to be surrounded by beautiful women.
"Why are you looking so smug?"
Karina's check is strict.
"No, well... I just thought it wasn't bad."
At that moment, Keel finds a light in the darkness and returns to a serious expression.
"I see a light over there... Be quiet."
Keel pulls the light back a little and approaches it.
At that moment, he saw something move.
"Hmm?"
"(Oh no, was I noticed?)"
The four hide and erase their presence.
"Was it just my imagination...?"
At that moment, what they saw beyond the light was a brightly glowing magic circle.
The magic circle emitted a pale light, projecting complex patterns onto the cave walls. In its center stood a human figure.
No, it was not human.
It was a Dragonewt, with wings growing from its back and its entire body covered in scales.
"A Dragonewt..."
Keel whispered in a low voice.
The Dragonewt is chanting something toward the magic circle. A low, resounding voice echoes through the cave.
"Is that... a ritual or something?"
Leon whispered.
"Probably. He's likely casting a barrier to protect the ruins."Keel replies.
At that moment, the Dragonewt suddenly turned around.
The tension in the air reached its peak.
"Who's there!"
A sharp voice was directed at the four of them.
"Oh no, we've been spotted!"
The moment Karina reached for her dagger, Keel grabbed her hand.
"Wait! Don't draw your sword!"
"But..."
"Remember what happened with the Wolfman. We talk first."
Keel stood in front of the four of them and raised both hands to show they were harmless.
"Wait! We're not your enemies!"
The Dragonute approached slowly. Its eyes glowed gold, and it stared at the four of them with a sharp gaze.
"Humans... and four of them at that. What business do you have in this sanctuary?"
The voice was male and filled with dignity. Its build was nearly twice that of a human, and its muscular body was covered in red scales.
Keel replied.
"I am Keel, a guide for this region. And these three are..."
"We are adventurers."
Karina stepped forward.
"There is something we absolutely must obtain. We are searching for the Star Fragment."
The Dragonute narrowed its eyes.
"The Star Fragment... You know that name?"
"Yes. In our homeland, there are people suffering from an incurable disease. We heard that if we have the Star Fragment, we can save them."
Erika gathered her courage and spoke.
"My younger sister is also... suffering from that illness. Please, I beg of you."
The Dragonewt stared at the three of them. His gaze was stern, but it also seemed to carry a hint of sadness.
"...Did you come to this land via a teleportation magic circle?"
"Yes, we did."
Lion answered.
"While we were climbing the mountain, the magic circle suddenly activated, and we were scattered and sent here."
The Dragonewt sighed deeply.
"As I thought... are you the 'Chosen Ones'?"
"The Chosen Ones?"
Karina asked.
The Dragonewt turned toward the magic circle.
"In this land, there is an ancient prophecy: 'When three souls overcome the trial, the star fragment shall awaken and bring light to the world.'"
"Three souls..."
"A warrior, a swordsman, and a priest. That refers to you."
The four of them looked at each other.
"The teleportation magic circle summons the 'Chosen Ones' according to the prophecy. You did not come here by chance. You were guided by fate."
Keel interjected.
"Then what about me?"
"You are... the guide. You have the role of leading the Chosen Ones down the correct path."
"A guide, huh... well, since you're a guide, I guess that's not wrong."
Keel gave a wry smile.
The Dragonewt turned to face the three of them.
"My name is Dragan. I am the guardian of these ruins. If you are truly the chosen ones, you must undergo trials."
"Trials?"
"Yes. Only those who overcome the three trials can reach the Star Fragment."
Dragan held his hand over the magic circle. Then, three doors appeared from the depths of the cave.
"The first trial is 'Courage'. The second trial is 'Wisdom'. The third trial is 'Bond'."
"Beyond each door, a trial awaits. Can you overcome them?"
Karina looked at her companions. Leon nodded firmly, and Erika looked anxious but had determination in her eyes.
"We will do it."
Karina replied.
"We have come this far. To save our friends, to save our homeland. We will overcome any trial."
Dragan nodded with satisfaction.
"Good eyes. Then, let us begin with the first trial."
Dragan pointed to the first door. A sword mark was carved into the door.
"Beyond this door, the 'Shadow Warrior' awaits. The bravest among you must face it alone."
Leon stepped forward.
"I will go."
"Leon..."
Karina called out with concern, but Leon replied with a smile.
"It's okay. I am a swordsman. I will overcome a trial like this."
"But, alone..."
"Karina, believe in me. We are comrades, aren't we?"
Leon drew her sword and began to walk toward the door.
"Wait."
Dragan called out.
"I will give you one piece of advice. The shadow warrior reflects your own form. Your weaknesses, your fears, everything will be manifested. To overcome it, you must face yourself."
Leon nodded.
"I understand."
And then, she opened the door.
Beyond the door was a pitch-black space. As Leon stepped inside, the door closed with a sound.
"Leon!"
Karina tried to run to the door, but Keel stopped her.
"Wait, Karina. This is her trial. We have no choice but to believe in her."
Karina clenched her fists.
"Leon... please be safe..."
From beyond the door, the sound of swords clashing could be heard.
The battle had begun.
Leon is fighting her own shadow alone.
Will she be able to overcome the trial?
And what are the two remaining trials?
Karina and Erika stared at the door, holding their breath.
