49 Realistic Changes I Experienced After 100 Days of Morning Routines | 28-Year-Old Minimalist
Good morning.
I'm Sho, a 28-year-old experimenting with morning routines and a minimalist lifestyle.
It's been almost 100 days since I started my morning routine.
Today, while slowly sipping coffee at Komeda, I'd like to look back on the changes that have happened to me over these 100 days.
First, just one thing.
I'm really proud of myself for doing this.
It wasn't perfect, and there were days I couldn't do it, but
the fact that I spent 100 days committed to my morning routine means a lot to me.
Today, I'm going to write down the real changes I experienced, including both the good and the bad.
I hope this serves as a reference for those interested in morning routines
or for those whose motivation is currently low.
1. About this 100-day morning routine challenge
This is what the initiative looked like.
・Theme: "A life with ease in the morning🌱"
・Wake up at 5 AM (goal)
・Secure personal time between 5 AM and 8 AM
・Tasks were not fixed, butmy six goals for this yearI did things that connected to
Here is what I did↓
Reading, writing notes, strength training, stretching
Walking, running, journaling, scheduling
Meetings with morning routine buddies, housework, chores, etc.
And,
Recording daily progress on Instagram Stories
Sharing my morning routine on Reels
In this way, doing habits + sharing as a setwas a key feature.
Please see here for why I do morning routines👇
2. 49 realistic changes that happened in 100 days of morning routines
The reason there are 49 is that it's the result of writing down the changes as they came to mind. I didn't want to carefully select them, as I wanted to keep the real feeling, so I summarized them as a bulleted list just as they were.
[Changes in Habits and Actions]
Posting content is no longer a burden. In fact, it has become fun.
I am now able to read books every day. At least one page.
I am now able to keep up with Note. I'm happy that I recently passed 100 articles.
I no longer put off things I want to do. It's directly linked to happiness.
I stopped lazing around at night and started going to bed early. My nighttime smartphone addiction has decreased.
I lost the habit of mindlessly scrolling on my phone in the morning. I get up and go to the bathroom right away.
I started keeping my phone away from my bed when I sleep. This was seriously important.
The Pomodoro technique (25 minutes of focus) has become a habit. This method is amazing for concentration.
I started morning jogging. It feels really good and gives me a great sense of accomplishment.
I am now able to do muscle training almost every day. I've been able to keep up about 20 minutes every morning.
I can now do 10 ab roller reps without putting my knees down. Growing little by little.
My body now feels uncomfortable if I don't do morning stretches.
I no longer put off laundry, cleaning, etc. Protecting my home!
[Changes in Thinking and Mental State]
I developed a habit of self-reflection, and my mental state has stabilized. I don't get irritated at all.
I've become more prone to feeling happiness even in small things. It's truly the best.
I've become better at switching gears on days when I couldn't get things done. This is important.
I understood the importance of lowering the hurdle. Just do it anyway.
I've become able to face myself instead of comparing myself to others. Because others aren't looking at me anyway.
I've learned that it's okay to have lazy days. Just being alive is an achievement.
I've gained confidence in my ability to stay consistent. I feel like I can take on anything.
I've grown to love the version of myself that builds things step by step. It's part of my identity.
I feel like I can finally let go of information overload and perfectionism.
Even during my period of unemployment, I felt that every day was meaningful. My happiness levels are high.
[Changes in Lifestyle and Values]
I've discovered how pleasant the morning air and time can be.
I've developed a habit of watching the sunrise. Sometimes I wake up just to see it.
I've started to enjoy feeling the breeze outside while brushing my teeth. It wakes me up.
I've grown to love incense. It helps me feel centered through my sense of smell.
I've come to love a clean, uncluttered desk. Less is more.
I've grown to love being in my own room. It's my own world.
I realized that as long as I have my body and my PC, I can live a rich life.
[Changes in Relationships and Environment]
My circle of morning-routine friends has grown. I get great inspiration from them.
I've connected with a minimalist I respect. I'm so happy!
My wife has become interested in morning time. I was truly surprised.
My wife has started reading in the morning. I'm even more surprised.
My wife and I have started talking about our daily rhythms.
I've become conscious of saying positive things to my wife. It's a sign of my own growth.
I realized that having companions makes it easier to keep going
[Changes in Sharing and Self-Actualization]
Filming my morning routine improved the quality of my actions
The flow of input → reflection → output feels great
It's fun to see my 'real self' accumulating on Note
I became able to review my goals and make plans every month
I understood that everyone has their own purpose and way of doing morning activities
I felt that while morning activities are a means, they are the foundation for turning life around
My understanding of career breaks deepened. This is thanks to books
I started facing money matters with the future in mind
I developed a habit of trying out AI tools. Putting 'just try it' into practice
I realized that if things become too rigid, they stop being fun
For some reason, I started liking Kei Tanaka (who wakes up at 3:45 AM)
Looking back, almost nothing but good things came out of it, haha
3. Important things I realized by trying it out
It doesn't have to be perfect
This is the number one thing I thought after doing it for 100 days.
Honestly, I wasn't able to do it perfectly every day.
There were days I couldn't wake up, and
there were days I had no motivation and couldn't do anything.
But I didn't quit there.
What's important is,
"Coming back to it again"
That was all it took.
And another big thing was,
Lowering the bar as much as possible.
・Just 10 minutes of strength training
・Just reading
・Just zoning out on the sofa
That is fine too.
In fact, that approach is more sustainable.
I realized that rather than aiming for perfection,
finding a way to keep going is worth many times more.I realized this.
Having companions keeps the fire burning
This is definitely one of the reasons I was able to continue my morning routine.
If I had done it alone, I don't think I would have lasted this long.
Having morning routine companions,
knowing there are others working just as hard.
Just that alone,
"I'll do it too"
I had moments like that many times.
Especially,
・Sharing about my morning routine
・Seeing posts from companions
・Sharing morning time together
These small interactions
became the energy for my consistency.
After all, people
change because of their environment.
If you want to keep up a good habit,
I felt that
creating an environment where it is easy to continueis more important than your own willpower.
Morning routines are the 'foundation' that changes your life
A morning routine is not the goal itself.
But after doing it for 100 days, I think that
this is definitely a 'foundational habit'.
What I did during my morning time was:
・Reading
・Self-reflection
・Content creation
・Exercise
Each of these is a small action.
But,
by stacking them up,
my thoughts became organized
my actions changed
my self-understanding deepened
and these changes began to happen.
And what I realized was,
the 'feeling that life is taking a turn for the better' only comes from these kinds of small, accumulated efforts
is true.
A morning routine is just a means to an end.
But,
time to face yourself
Time spent for myself
Once I was able to secure this every day,
the direction of my life began to align little by little.
I had that kind of feeling.
Conclusion
Thank you for reading this far.
Honestly, just because I continued my morning routine for 100 days,
it doesn't mean my life changed dramatically.
But,
the 'quality of my days' definitely changed.
Having a little time for myself in the morning.
Facing myself.
Building up small things.
Just by repeating that,
how I spend my day and my feelings gradually start to align.
I have that kind of feeling.
And above all,
the feeling of 'being able to keep promises to myself'
This quietly turned into self-confidence.
If you are someone who is currently,
・Wanting to try a morning routine but hesitating
・Feeling frustrated because you can't keep it up
then,
I want you to try taking just one step,
even if it's really small to start with.
It doesn't have to be perfect.
It can be relaxed.
Continuing changes everything.
These 100 days are just the starting point.
I intend to continue at my own pace
from here on out.
If there are any more changes, I will write them down here.
Receiving likes and comments encourages me for my next post.
By changing myself, I want to become someone who can have a positive influence on others.
If there is anything I can do for you, please feel free to ask questions or seek advice,
and I will respond with sincerity.
Thank you so much for reading this far🌱
