The cat 'vomiting' problem

The cat 'vomit' problem. It's a hassle to clean up when it happens on the floor.

As a countermeasure, I use roll-type plastic bags to prevent the vomit from scattering.

Since they are new, they are tear-resistant and leak-proof.

Therefore, it's hard for the house to get dirty.

Especially my cat,of all places, on my futontries to vomit.

Also on the sheepskin rug. And the hardwood floor.

It's hard to get stains out of fabrics without washing them completely.

On hardwood floors, I can't help but worry about the mess getting into the gaps.

My cat vomits often.

It's from hairballs during shedding season.

And it's caused by binge eating.

Cats vomit as a matter of course.

Having roll-type plastic bags (hereinafter referred to as plastic bags) is very convenient as a way to deal with it.

They are those bags you find at the packing station after checking out at the supermarket.

I have written about the convenience of plastic bags in previous articles.

Roll-type plastic bag stocks are not yet very common.
You can use them for as little as 60 yen a month.
I want to spread the word more.

A 10-second 'hurl' patch

Now then.

When my cat is about to hurl,

Ooooo
uuuuooooo

they make a painful, groaning sound like that.

Once you catch the sign of their cry, keep a plastic bag handy.

And then

when the cat starts retching with a 'kock-kock-kock' sound,

spread the plastic bag out near the cat's mouth.

If you set one side of the plastic bag's four corners under the cat's mouth,

you can catch exactly what they hurl up.

In my cat's case, they hurl twice when they retch.

Once you've checked the situation after the barf and decided it's safe, just tie the opening of the plastic bag tightly and toss it away.

Your hands won't get dirty either.

Turning major 'barf spots' into infrastructure

The time from (1) the cat making a strange noise, to (2) retching, to (3) barfing is about 10 seconds.

If you notice (1), you won't make it in time unless you have a plastic bag ready for the cat instantly.

That's why, in our house, we keep them by the bedside, in the living room, and in the dining room.

I always keep a few plastic bags, pulled out vertically, at my cat's main 'barf' spots.

By doing this, I can respond immediately even to sudden early morning barfing.

Cost-effective at 1.6 yen per bag. The peace of mind of commercial-grade, thick material.

Wouldn't it be better to reuse the plastic bags you get when shopping?

No, I personally don't recommend it.

Supermarket plastic bags, which are getting thinner every year anyway, are prone to tearing during use, which could lead to the barf leaking out.

In that regard, the plastic bags we stock are thick.

They are made just as sturdily, if not more so, than the plastic bags from nicer shops.

Of course, since they are unused, there is no worry about leaks.

The problem is the soaring prices.

As of April 2026, due to the weak yen and rising raw material costs, prices are skyrocketing.

That said, as I wrote before, it was 1.4 yen per bag at the end of January 2026.
It is now roughly 1.6 yen.

Those plastic bags you often find yourself wanting more of at the supermarket.

You can use them for less than 100 yen a month, feeling like you have unlimited supply.
