[Execution Phase] Drawings are nothing more than a 'map.' How to win the 'serious match' called the construction site that lies beyond them.
“The designer is chosen, and the best drawings are done.
Now, all that’s left is to build it!”
If you are currently feeling that bright and cheerful, please take a deep breath and read this article.
In store creation, the construction phase is where the most money moves, the most trouble occurs, and the gap between “ideal and reality” is most pronounced.
No matter how beautiful the drawings are, if you fail in the process of translating them into a 3D space, everything will be ruined.
This time, I will talk extensively about the darkness of opaque estimates in the construction industry, the true nature of additional costs, and smart ordering strategies to land your “treasure map” of drawings into a “profitable reality.”
1. [Construction Common Occurrences] Why does a space that was perfect in the drawings “waver” on-site?
The drawings are the “highest-grade treasure map” drawn by you and the designer.
However, once construction begins, “mountains and valleys not on the map” appear one after another at the site.
“When we demolished it, there was an immovable pillar in an unexpected place.”
“When we actually shone a light on it, the impression of the wall material we chose might be different from the drawings.”
The site is a living thing.
A common occurrence is that when faced with such changes, the design is slightly modified for the “convenience” of the contractor, and before you know it, the original concept becomes blurred.
The accumulation of small compromises on-site creates that sense of discomfort when it’s finished, where you think, “Something is different.”
2. Drawings are a “promise.” Why the designer, as the supervisor, protects your interests to the end
For the contractor, the drawings are “instructions,” but for the designer, they are a “promise to the owner.”
On-site, the temptation to prioritize schedule and cost, thinking, “It’s an invisible place, so this treatment will be fine,” creeps in. At such times, is there a designer standing by your side who won’t budge, saying, “No, this one-millimeter fit determines the comfort of the customer”?
This “design supervision” is the final fortress that protects the purity of the design you invested in.

3. Breaking the spell of “lump-sum estimates.” Thinking to turn the budget into “value” at the construction stage
This is the phase to land the strategic budgetallocation discussed in the 17th installment at the construction site. The “lump-sum estimate,” an old custom in the construction industry, creates anxiety precisely because the contents are invisible.
At ODG, designers scrutinize even the back side of construction and do not allow opaque markups.
“Cut costs saved from unexpected troubles and divert that budget to changing the counter top to a higher-quality single board.”
This flexible and sincere on-site judgment is smart ordering for business owners.

4. The true meaning of “smart ordering.” Cutting intermediate costs and pouring every drop into the space
I touched on the multi-layered structure of the industry in the 16th installment, but the construction stage is where that distortion appears most prominently.
If you leave it entirely to a large construction company, layers of intermediate margins will be taken, and the budget reaching the craftsmen on-site will become thin.
ODG advocates for direct management utilizing technology.
Cut unnecessary costs and pour every drop into the quality of the space (materials and the skills of craftsmen).
That is the only way to create a store of a different “class” with the same budget.
5. The reason ODG continues to accompany you until “completion.” It is to end the loneliness of the business owner
We believe that platforms that say, 'Just do the design, and do whatever you want after that,' are irresponsible.
What owners are looking for is not a blueprint, but a 'physical store that generates profit and is loved by customers.'
By providing consistent support from designer selection to construction ordering and final handover, we resolve the anxieties that business owners feel on-site.
The ODG system is an 'execution engine' for converting your ideals into real profit.
6. The passion of the site resides in the details. How an owner's behavior ignites the 'pride' of the craftsmen.
In Part 18, I shared the philosophy of 'leaving it to the pros,' but there is one best job an owner can do once construction begins.
That is to visit the site and engage in dialogue with the craftsmen.
When your passion—'I want to make the people of this town smile in this shop'—is conveyed, the way the craftsmen work will definitely change.
The 'soldiers' (craftsmen) breathe life into the map drawn by the 'strategist' (designer) with pride. By being at the center of that, you bring a soul to the space.
7. The '3 Divine Details' that make a difference on-site. If you compromise here, the store will die.
I will share the 'critical points' that owners must check with their designers at the construction site.
① Boundary treatment (parting): Is the boundary where different materials meet handled beautifully?
② Light's 'escape route': Even though the fixtures are not visible, is the magic of light discussed in Part 14 correctly reproduced?
③ The 'texture' of places touched by hands: Door knobs and counter corners. Does your philosophy reside in the parts that customers feel with their skin?
8. [Preview] Next release. The ultimate answer key to 'explode' the knowledge from parts 1–19.
Knowledge, theory, mindset.
You have already equipped yourself with everything you need to fight.
However, how should you combine these, and when is the right time to pull the trigger called 'ordering'?
Part 20. As a special event for this series, we will unveil our hand-picked 'ranking of the most prosperous stores.'
Which designer did the successful owner appoint, and what decisions did they make on-site?
This is an overwhelmingly dense 'answer key' that ties up everything from parts 1–19 as foreshadowing.
Because it contains such raw numbers and strategies, I want to deliver it only to 'comrades' who are serious about achieving success.
Therefore, a portion will be set as paid content.
9. Summary | The story has only just begun.
The moment a store takes shape is a thrilling experience. However, that is merely the beginning of a new voyage called 'management.'
Part 20 is the 'first culmination' of this series.
Witness the moment when all the puzzle pieces we have accumulated so far connect at once.
Are you ready to grab your ticket to success?
Tomorrow, we will reveal the 'correct answer to prosperity' that will be etched into the history of note.
