Smiles and Hope Connected by Online Classes | Even If You Can't Go to the Classroom, Learning Can Continue [Alternative Classroom Attendance, School Non-Attendance, Home Learning]
For children and families struggling with the feeling of 'not being able to go to school,' online classes might be the key that opens the door to a new way of learning. I feel that an environment where one can learn in their own way, without being tied to the physical location of a classroom, is gradually expanding. In this article, I would like to share the joy children are feeling through online classes and the possibilities of diverse learning methods, based on our actual experiences.
The day the light returned to my child's eyes the moment the online class connected (˙⩌˙)
'I can hear everyone's voices'—just that alone warms the heart
I still remember how my child's expression lit up the moment our online class connected at home.
'Mom, I heard [Name]'s voice!'
The moment they said that and showed me a smile, my heart felt warm as a parent, too. Even if they cannot physically go to the classroom, they can hear their classmates' voices through the screen. Just that seems to make the child feel that they are 'connected to everyone.'
The sense of security brought by online classes (๑°꒵°๑)・*♡
For children who choose non-attendance or alternative classroom attendance, the place called 'school' can sometimes be a source of great pressure. However, by being able to participate in classes from a relaxing environment like home, an alternative room, or the nurse's office, it seems the burden on their hearts has lightened.
At our home, we have become able to participate in classes without strain while adjusting the morning pace ourselves.
Is it okay if I can't go to the classroom?? | Can learning continue even with alternative classroom attendance or school non-attendance??
The option of alternative classroom attendance
Even if the classroom is difficult, there are ways to learn in the nurse's office or an alternative room. There was a time when we adopted this method in our home as well. Now, we choose to study either at home or in an alternative room.
By consulting with school teachers and finding a comfortable place for the child, I believe learning can continue even in situations where 'I can go to school, but the classroom is difficult.'
The possibilities of home learning
We have entered an era where high-quality learning is possible at home by utilizing online classes and correspondence education. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology also seems to be moving toward flexible responses regarding attendance credit for learning that utilizes ICT. At our home, we try to prepare an environment where the child can proceed with learning at their own pace using tablets and computers.
Days of realizing the gratitude of being able to 'study' ( ˃ ꒳ ˂)
Gratitude for the right to learn and the environment (˶❛⥿❛˵)
Now that we are connected through online classes, I am once again feeling the gratitude of 'having an environment where one can learn.'
Japan's compulsory education system guarantees the right to receive an education for all children. However, in reality, there are children who cannot attend classrooms for various reasons. In such a situation, I truly believe that the increase in online options is a major step forward.
Cherishing the child's desire to 'want to learn' (•‾⌣‾•)و ̑̑♡
"I'm just so happy," "I'm grateful to be able to study."
When my child says things like that, as a parent, I feel happier than anything else. Even if the place or method of learning is different, as long as there is a desire to learn, I believe children can continue to grow.
Elementary school compulsory education: there should be various ways to learn
What is the essence of compulsory education?
The "obligation" in compulsory education,is actually not "the child's obligation to go to school," but rather"the guardian's obligation to ensure the child receives an education."In other words, I don't think it necessarily means one must attend a school classroom.
What is important is that the child has the opportunity to learn.
I believe there is more than one way to do that.
Options for diverse learning methods
Online classes
Free schools
Homeschooling
Correspondence education
A combination of alternative classroom attendance and home learning
Going to take tests after school
Receiving handouts when unable to attend class
Talking to the teacher on the phone after school
In the coming era, the options for how to learn may continue to increase.
Towards the future | Toward an education that embraces diversity
Each person's unique "form of learning"
Every child has a different personality. I believe their strengths, weaknesses, and the environments they feel comfortable in are all different.
In our home, we tell our child, "It's okay not to be the same as everyone else," "Let's try learning in a way that suits you," and "If you really feel like you want to go to the classroom, let's go!"
Expectations for future education
I feel that the spread of online classes is becoming a major catalyst for expanding the diversity of education. A society where one can choose a learning method that suits each child without being bound by frameworks. I believe such a future is gradually drawing closer.
The joy of connecting, the happiness of being able to learn
The smile my child showed me through online classes. The simple joy of saying, "I'm just happy to hear everyone's voices."
Whether they cannot go to the classroom, attend in a separate room, study at home, or attend the nurse's office, children are definitely growing. What is important may not be where they learn, but whether they can feel the joy of learning. I hope that environments where each child can learn in their own way will continue to expand.
Learning from Quotes📖
"The purpose of education is not to fill an empty vessel, but to light a fire."
These are words that teach us that true education is about lighting the fire of passion for learning within a child.
"Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything one learned in school."
This suggests that the essence of education is not knowledge itself, but the attitude toward learning and the ability to think.

To make home learning more fun and fulfilling
While continuing online classes and home learning, I feel that setting up a learning environment is very important. In our home, we have also been trying through trial and error to create an environment where our child can easily concentrate.
"If only there were goods that made learning more comfortable..."
"I want to find ways to help them maintain concentration."
For those who have such thoughts, I would like to introduce some learning goods that I have found useful. There are surprisingly many items that support home learning, such as tablets, blue light blocking glasses, posture support cushions, and earphones. You might find hints to make your child's learning more comfortable. Please check them out. (*'▽')
