If you are worried about money, make money-making your hobby

Starting a business doing what you love is a common topic. According to books out there, it seems that the "start a business doing what you love" camp is in the majority.
On the other hand, you also see a camp that says, "You will fail if you start a business doing what you love."

Because of things like this, serious readers end up wavering back and forth every time they read these books.
The more you read, the more confused you become. It might be a misuse of the term to say you lack independence, but still.

I think if you have something you love and want to do, you should do it. But if you are that kind of person, you are still fine. Because you have something you want to do.

Then, what about people who don't know what they want to do? Can they not start a business?

Actually, many people give up on starting a business here and tend to waste years wandering around. Isn't it because you think about starting a business simply in terms of likes and dislikes that your thinking gets skewed?

For example, my favorite hobby is "fishing." Ever since I was a child, I loved fishing so much I couldn't get enough of it. I went fishing almost every holiday. This continued even after I became a working adult.

It continued even after I got married and had children.

I don't go as often as I used to, but I still go fishing about four or five times a year.

"If you love fishing that much, why don't you make it your profession?" you might think. But that is naive. If you try it, you will understand well that you cannot make a living from fishing.

Let's say you fish from morning until night, or from night until morning.
And let's say you caught some fish. But where would the money come from?

Even if you sold the fish, it wouldn't amount to much. Just pocket change. You aren't catching bluefin tuna, after all (laughs).

You cannot make a living this way. It is incredibly fun while you are fishing, though...

Well, one could consider working for a fishing tackle manufacturer or a fishing tackle shop, but that would be being a salaryman, and you wouldn't have the original fun of catching fish.

There are also fishing guides and fishing instructors, but these are mainly about teaching others, and again, you don't have the original fun of catching fish yourself.

Being an editor for a fishing magazine is also a job that depends on fishing, but in this case, you move even further away from the activity of fishing, and the main practical work becomes making the magazine.

What I like is the "act" of catching fish, and that is completely different from wanting to do a job related to fishing.

There are some fishing pros who enter fishing tournaments to earn prize money, or who have fishing tackle manufacturers as sponsors due to their authority.

But there are only a handful of such special people. It is not a world where you can get by just on liking it. This is similar to the world of professional golfers.

From this, I can conclude that although my favorite hobby is fishing, it cannot be a profession, and starting a business is impossible.

In that case, you might ask, "I want to start a business, but what should I do?" In a word,

You should make "making money" your hobby.

There is no need to overthink it. Making money is a hobby.
Doesn't just hearing the words "making money" give you a thrill?

Personally, I get more of a thrill hearing "making money" than "fishing" (laughs).

I think this is the honest truth.

In the first place, every business owner, without exception, thinks about and aims to make money from morning until night every single day. If that is the case, then you should indeed make making money your hobby.

Wanting to start a business means earning money for yourself.
No matter what field you start a business in, the ultimate goal is to make money.

Since it is about making money, you can do anything to earn it, as long as it does not violate public order, morals, or ethics. And if there is something you like, are good at, or are capable of doing, you can incorporate that as well.

In short, the mindset of making money comes first, and then you add what you are capable of doing to that. This is truly like giving a club to an ogre (a winning combination).

Ultimately, no matter what you do, income will follow your actions, so it may sound simplistic, but you should make making money your hobby. It is the shortest path to thinking about profit.

When you adopt a money-making mindset, your world expands all at once.

After all, you can do anything.
You don't have to be bound by what you like or overthink things. Moreover, because you will end up researching various things, your knowledge will increase broadly and shallowly.

The reason I say it is important to make making money a hobby or to have a money-making mindset is that if you only do what you like, you will eventually hit a wall and your thinking will not expand.

It is fine when business is going well, but when things don't go as planned, if you are too fixated on what you like, your thinking will, to put it extremely, come to a halt. You won't be able to come up with ideas to break through the crisis.

It is like an image where only the trunk of the big tree grows upward, but the tributaries—the side branches where small money comes in—do not grow outward. That is because there is no money-making mindset.

It is dangerous not to think of ways to earn money other than what you like. It is dangerous to lack greed for money.

So, first of all, let's make making money your hobby!

Because it is a hobby, and because it is about making money, which you truly enjoy, you will thoroughly think about ways to earn. How will the money come in? You will even try various things.

You don't need to have something you love. Unless you are a person who can develop that habit of thinking, you won't easily move forward even if you start a business.

The other day, I was chatting with someone who apparently just replaced their pleasure boat. However, they mentioned that the waterproofing on the cabin window frames had failed and rainwater was getting in, and asked if I could do the waterproofing treatment.

I had never done waterproofing for cabin window frames before, but I immediately said "OK!" Because, after all, making money is my hobby (laughs).

As a result, I repaired the waterproofing with a resin called silicone. It is the same as a house window.
You can apply anything to anything. If you don't know how, you can just ask someone or refer to the internet or YouTube.

Kaiun-san did not start this errand service business because he liked it. He has been doing it as an extension of his work from his days as a company employee.

Currently, I have removed the boundaries of my business because it is too much trouble (laughs).
I will take on any problem a customer has!

This is because,the goal of making moneyis something for whichthe business as a meanscan be anything.

In other words, I am targeting "people's problems" that have demand as my business.
It is not about what I want to do or what I want to try, but about doing what is requested.

That is all.
It is very simple.

And instead of thinking about making a lot of money from the start, I think about how to earn the first yen. This is what I think about.

I often talk about survival lately, and I
believe that making money is the same as survival.

If you have the skills to start a fire or find water, you can sustain your life anywhere. If entrepreneurs do not forget the basic mindset of making money, they can recover with something else even if their main business fails. They can survive.

I repeat, before you think about starting a business based only on likes and dislikes, I want you to first build a money-making brain. Making money is not dirty; on the contrary, it is your one and only lifeline.

The purpose of starting a business is ultimately to make money.
What you do for a living is just a means.

If you want to live with high-minded ideals, I think you should live like a saint or a hermit, but that is not realistic, is it?
