[Recent Updates] Vol. 4 I'm writing about exactly that kind of thing

Good evening, this is Mizuka.

I am a dad spending every day with my 5-year-old (middle-class preschooler) daughter, my 1.5-year-old daughter, and my wife.

I live a life where I unravel the little frays of daily life with children while writing on note.

I've decided to slow down the pace of writing my monthly reports.

Right now, I am writing my 'October Review note (monthly report)'.

Actually, I was thinking of posting that review note today instead of this 'Recent Updates' letter.

However, it didn't come together as well as I had thought, so I decided to push back the timing of the post itself.

Last month's review note (monthly report) also went through various trial and error, and it wasn't until after the middle of the month that it was completed.

At that time, too, I shared the progress in a 'Recent Updates' letter, so I'm a little concerned that lately, 'Recent Updates' has just become 'progress reports for the monthly report'.

As a letter that delivers the 'behind the scenes'

However, I started this 'Recent Updates' letter with the intention of making it a place to deliver the 'behind the scenes' of my main series, such as my 'parenting essays,' 'live parenting updates,' and 'monthly review notes'.

I wanted it to be a place where I could share the 'behind the scenes' of my main series.

So, sharing the progress of my writing like this fits that purpose and is something I want to cherish.

Also, for now, I am thinking that I would like to use this 'Recent Updates' format when writing about topics that are a bit removed from 'parenting,' which is the theme I have set as the core of my note posts.

The importance of deciding 'not to think about it for now'

Well, as of now, I feel like my 'October Review Note (Monthly Report)' is about 50% complete.

In the previous 'Recent Updates Vol. 3' I wrote something like this.

Identify 'things that are better to do now' and 'things that will cause trouble later if not done by this time,' and whenever there's a chance, tackle them with honed focus.

I think this 'way of keeping distance from what's in front of me' is an essential sense of balance for someone like me who is interested in many things but gets tired easily.

I realized later that one of the most important points, which I forgot to write at that time, was:

'Deciding to try not to think about that matter until this timing (it should be fine not to think about it) '

I realized that was something I had.

In my case, I'm the type who always has many 'things I want to do,' and once something catches my interest, I can't get it out of my head.

So, if I move around without thinking, just following my emotions in the moment, my head quickly gets into a 'traffic jam of things I want to do,' and in the end, I can't focus on any of them.

Therefore, consciously deciding 'I won't think about it now' becomes a lifeline.

On top of that, improving the accuracy of judging 'from what timing is it okay to think about it' and 'in what order should I tackle them'.

I suppose I have repeatedly done this adjustment work throughout my life so far, and I will continue to work on it in the future.

Following a pattern versus the gap in reality

However, regarding the theme of writing a 'Review Note (Monthly Report),' I felt once again this time that the accuracy is still not quite there.

When I wrote the previous monthly report, I saw something like a pattern, thinking 'If I write with this structure, it should go smoothly!' and I was enthusiastic, saying 'I'll use this method from next time,' but,

When I actually proceeded according to that image, the flow of thought just didn't fit.

Even if you think in your head 'It should work!', when you get out into the field, it's completely different from what you expected. There are many such things, aren't there?

Come to think of it, this is actually the first time I've tried 'writing a monthly report according to a template'.

So, it's only natural that my initial estimates were a bit off.

I think I probably won't be able to keep this up unless I have the mindset of 'generously accepting the deviations'.

Continuing while accepting the 'things not going well'

In the midst of all this, I am currently writing about a theme in my 'Reflection Note (Monthly Report)' that includes the question, 'How can I keep posting even when there are frequent periods where things aren't going well?'

On top of that, I've made adjustments to fit the situation and am writing this 'Recent Updates Newsletter Vol. 4'.

I felt a bit saved realizing that, in this very moment, I am actually putting that into practice myself.

Including the times when things don't go well, and leaving that as a record in writing.

Today, I am leaving this newsletter as a record of such a small practice.

The 'October Reflection Note (Monthly Report)', which is still in progress, will surely take shape somewhere down the line.

When that happens, please let me report it here again.

See you later.

[Bonus]
Recently, my one-and-a-half-year-old second daughter, Tsu-chan, has started saying 'Oichi~~!' (Yummy!) with a big, beaming smile.
There is a different kind of joy in having verbal communication that clicks little by little.

This is a magazine that collects articles I've written about my note posts, which I started in August 2025, in the form of monthly reports, reflecting on the past and discussing the future while also touching on actual access data. ↓
