Royal Book [Resonance Arc] Story Summary & Character Introduction for Chapters 31 to 40
Synopsis
On the back of the portrait of Koharu painted by Kai Rowl were the numbers "0" and "1," which had been carved into the pedestal of Til Mare. They were Koharu's feelings for Kai and Riku. At those words, a single tear fell from Kai Rowl's eyes.
After a while, he turned to Silas and told him that his power as a "Resonator" was the key to reaching the "Royal Book." He said that if the numbers appeared again, they would light the way.
Silas and his companions bid farewell to Kai Rowl and his group and departed for the walled city of Elden to find someone known as a "Number Reader." On the way, Silas explained about the Rowl Trading Company to Oscar.
The Rowl Trading Company is a world-renowned trading firm. Kai Rowl's twin brother, Riku Rowl, was known not only for his business acumen but also for investing vast personal wealth into building orphanages and hospitals to support the people.
Eventually, a massive city wall came into view, and the group arrived in Elden. While waiting in line at the gate, Sylvia, the granddaughter of the city lord Greta, appeared to welcome Silas and his companions.
While looking for an inn within the city walls, a child bumped into Oscar with great force. The two looked at each other and exclaimed at the same time, "...It's you!"
It was the child Oscar had previously saved from a drunkard. The child's name was Luca. His mother ran a famous chocolate shop called "Chocolat Erna." With the permission of Luca's mother, Erna, they decided to settle on the second floor of Chocolat Erna.
Caleb, who was interested in chocolate making, begged Erna repeatedly until she agreed to let him work there. That night, Erna and Luca joined them for dinner, and the night at Chocolat Erna grew lively.
--The next morning.
People who had heard rumors about Caleb flocked to the shop, and Chocolat Erna was bustling from the morning. After finishing his help at the shop, Silas headed to Elden Castle in search of clues about the "Number Reader."
When he happened to meet Sylvia in town and asked her about the "Number Reader," she answered easily. She explained that it referred to those who worked on repairing the city walls.
She introduced him to Azur, one of the "Number Readers." According to Azur, the wall speaks to him, telling him "fix this place," and he can "sense" deterioration and stress as numbers. Silas was intrigued by this mysterious ability, but when he placed his hand on the wall, he felt nothing. Watching Silas's back as he returned to town, Azur whispered softly, "...He's similar."

On the night Silas's group arrived in Elden, 03 visited the city lord Greta and Sylvia to deliver a message from 2000.
"No matter what happens, do nothing. Just watch."
To Sylvia, who was furious at those words, Greta gently taught her that their mission was to protect both.
On the city wall, 45 and 368, who were on guard duty, were tracking 03's movements with their eyes. 03 likewise delivered 2000's message to them as well. Under the starry sky, they said,
"Let's see how this plays out."

On the night he spoke with Silas, Azure hurried to Elden Castle. After hearing Azure's report, Sylvia relayed a message from 2000 to him. She told Azure, "I want you to be prepared for any eventuality."
As Silas spent more time with Azure, he learned about his past and the circumstances of the Elden family. Upon hearing that Sylvia's mother, Olivia, had died in an accident and that the castle lord Greta and Sylvia were protecting the town, a question began to grow deep within his heart.
One day, while on his way to the castle to have an audience with Lord Greta, Silas encountered an attack by an armed group that had suddenly appeared in town. As the people fled in panic, Silas guided them to the castle and worked with Oscar, Sylvia, and Azure to defend it.
The armed group was not merely a band of thieves, but the "Wolf Banner Corps," who carried a flag depicting a golden two-headed wolf on a black background. They were aiming to break into the castle. Knowing that there was a passage to the outside of the walls within Elden Castle, Silas urged Sylvia, "Let the people escape outside the walls." However, she trembled and replied, "That passage... humans cannot use it."
From his exchange with Sylvia, Silas learned the shocking fact that his brother, Alvin, had once come to Elden. However, Sylvia, flustered by his words, could not give a coherent answer to his questions. As tension mounted, flames rose outside the castle gate.
Meanwhile, Caleb was heading to the shop to save Erna. To Erna, who would not move because she wanted to retrieve the notes (records of chocolate) inside the shop, Caleb whispered his feelings. "Erna is important to me, too."
Caleb managed to get the notes just in the nick of time, and the two of them started running toward the castle.
Having reached the castle, Caleb informed Silas of the situation in town. Judging that every second counted, Silas shouted to Sylvia, "Save the people right in front of you!" and rode his horse toward Aurel Square.
In town, Oscar and Caleb were back-to-back, fending off the encroaching armed group. Oscar subdued them with brute force, while Caleb read the flow of battle. Thanks to their coordination, the enemy was gradually pushed back. Furthermore, when Oscar struck down the enemy commander, the armed group fell into chaos, and the tide of battle shifted significantly.
Meanwhile, having arrived at Aurel Square, Silas steeled himself before the canal and unleashed the power of a Resonator. The canal water rose in response, roaring like a giant dragon, and instantly suppressed the flames burning the town.
At that overwhelming sight, the armed group was seized with terror and fled. On top of the castle walls, the two guards, 368 and 45, who had been watching Silas's power, nodded with satisfaction.
Oscar, Caleb, and the others, who had pursued the armed group, saw reinforcements from the Navia Kingdom outside the castle gate. They felt something was off about the reinforcements' arrival being so quick, but with the reinforcements joining the front lines, the armed group was scattered in an instant.
After the battle, Silas received gratitude from the people, but he did not miss the fear of his power lurking behind their gazes. Even so, supported by the straightforward praise of his friends and the genuine gratitude of many, he was able to accept for the first time, with honesty, the realization that his power had been useful.
Eventually, invited by Lord Greta, Silas headed to Elden Castle with Azure. Upon having an audience with Greta, Silas saw the "secret of the wall" that the Elden family had protected for generations.
Silas, along with Greta and the others, continued to descend the old stairs, down and down. Eventually, what spread out before his eyes was a vast forest. Silas gasped at the sight, rendered speechless. He then learned that the castle walls were not a "shield" to protect the people, but functioned as a giant "stake" supporting this forest.
Greta explained that this forest was a seed of life preserved for regeneration, and that the Elden family had protected the people and this land for generations. As they proceeded deeper into the forest, a row of quiet gravestones appeared. Among them, a particularly new gravestone caught his eye.
--Olivia Elden
That was the name carved on the gravestone.
When his brother Alvin visited Elden, the town was also invaded, and at that time, Alvin and Olivia clashed due to their differing beliefs. Olivia lost her life to Alvin's power of resonance, and Alvin was then struck down by the sword of the one who reads numbers.
For a moment, intense anger flares up in Silas's chest, but that anger is blown away by the fact that Greta and Sylvia have also lost their loved ones.
The life before his eyes, and the life of the future. Which one should take priority...? Silas realizes that there is no right answer here.
And so, Silas asks Greta the question that had been stuck in his chest.
...Who created this forest and lake?
The Ruler. The Regenerator. The Created. Their names vary depending on the era and location.
After a breath, Greta spoke.
Their name is Northria.
