Important things for making work easier
How do you feel when you hear the phrase "making work easier"?
…Honestly, did you feel something like
Is that even allowed?
That's a naive way of thinking, you're not taking work seriously
even for a split second?
If you did, you are surely a wonderful person who is serious and has a strong sense of justice. I mean that sincerely.
But while I used the word "making work easier," I did not say "cutting corners."
I think this is a bias, as when people hear "making work easier," they naturally think of:
・Slacking off
・Cutting corners
・Not producing results
This is certainly not a good thing. However, what if it were:
But what about the case of:
・Slacking off
・Cutting corners
・Producing results
The impression changes a bit, doesn't it? If you saw someone like this, I think their evaluation would be split into two:
・They are slacking off so much yet producing results, they must be cheating.
・They are efficient and must be a smart person.
Something like that.
But if you are one of those people who thinks "they might be cheating," you might be bound by a bias. That is,
the bias that hardship and pain are necessary to produce results.
But if we consider an ideal state with no constraints, would hardship and pain be necessary conditions for producing results at work?
I don't think those are conditions at all. A state where everyone is smiling, working easily, and producing results is the most ideal. At the very least, for a company, it is obviously better to have someone who works shorter hours and achieves greater results, because they can simply obtain results for lower wages.
So, while I certainly believe that hard work is important, exploring ways to achieve results without struggling is also extremely important. It means achieving results easily in a short amount of time.
And what is indispensable for this is
knowing your own strengths and what you are good at, and utilizing them to perform your work
.
It is always easier to achieve results when you work on things you are good at.
This is an extreme example, but Shohei Ohtani is good at baseball, right?
But what would happen if you told him to become an AI developer and earn the same salary as he does now?
Well, he might eventually reach the same level, but it would take an enormous amount of time. Ohtani should continue to be a baseball player by leveraging his strengths.
This is an extreme example, but there is such a thing as the right person in the right place. People who understand this about themselves can achieve results more easily than those who do not. After all, it is something they are good at.
Furthermore, it is ideal if you can work at the intersection of what you are good at and what you enjoy. Since you don't feel like effort is effort when you are doing what you like, you will continue to level up.
In an RPG, you generally don't teach a mage class melee combat. Because it is something they are not good at. It is the same thing.
When compared to these extreme examples or games, people rarely feel uncomfortable with the idea of leveraging strengths and skills to make things easier, but when it comes to individuals, this perspective is often missing.
Instead of accepting long working hours, why not try to understand yourself in order to achieve results easily in a short amount of time?
